Tor Star: Cellucci blames politics for (Canadian) beef ban
Should be lifted within `months,' he tells audience
Ambassador's partisan speech unusual

...snip
"I don't want to say there is no politics involved," he said, pointing to South Dakota's Democratic Senator and Minority Leader Tom Daschle, who is up for re-election in a tight race considered by many to be one of the most significant in the Nov. 2 election.

"And, you know, (Daschle is) very much opposed to this beef coming in," Cellucci said. "He and other senators have written the department of agriculture to say, `Don't let the beef in from Canada.' "And it's not based upon sound science. So that's why things have slowed down."

Meanwhile, Cellucci said Canada and the United States are discussing an agreement to include marine security and cyber security in the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

"The threat (of terrorist attack) has not receded," Cellucci said. "The threat is real ... We cannot defend our homeland without Canada's help."
..
Cellucci said he will step down as ambassador next year.

1. US banned Canadian Beef because Canada was No War!
This is simply Washington punishing Canada for not supporting Bush's war for oil. Plain and simple.
