No casualties? White House disputes Robertson comment
No casualties? White House disputes Robertson comment
'The president never made such a comment'
Wednesday, October 20, 2004 Posted: 6:31 PM EDT (2231 GMT)

EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (CNN) -- A White House spokesman denied Wednesday that President Bush told Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson that he did not expect casualties from the invasion of Iraq.

"The president never made such a comment," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

Senior Bush campaign adviser Karen Hughes, a longtime confidant of the president, said she was "certain" Bush would not have said anything like that to Robertson.

"Perhaps he misunderstood, but I've never heard the president say any such thing," Hughes said on CNN's "Inside Politics."

2. isn't it amazing that the *Co calls anyone
that says what they don't like "liars", but no one is allowed to call this mal-administration on its lies?

Wonder how that "lying" Pat Robertson feels about his buds tonight.

3. So, they both lied on God? Is that "blasphemy?" That's the first thing.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:02 PM by ladybugg33
See the Magistrate's comment in GDCampaign04.

His take is that Bush probably made the statement because he knew that there were no WMDs in Iraq, hence, no casualties.

This is going to be "delicious."

Senior Bush campaign adviser Karen Hughes, a longtime confidant of the president, said she was "certain" Bush would not have said anything like that to Robertson.

When the pres spewed obscenities in front of Carlson, Hughes vehemently denied that too, even though in this case, she WAS there. To this day Carlson seems amazed Hughes would tell such a lie.

15. Here's the story on the Carlson/Hughes lie-fest
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:31 PM by jdjkkse
1999, conservative pundit Tucker Carlson had an odd experience. He saw then-Governor Bush swear and wrote a piece that noted it. Karen Hughes, who Carlson had seen see Bush swear, responded by calling Carlson a liar.

so I called Karen and asked her why she was saying this, and she had this almost Orwellian rap that she laid on me about how things she’d heard — that I watched her hear — she in fact had never heard, and she’d never heard Bush use profanity ever. It was insane.

I’ve obviously been lied to a lot by campaign operatives, but the striking thing about the way she lied was she knew I knew she was

19. Carlson on Hughes:
"I've obviously been lied to a lot by campaign operatives, but the striking thing about the way she lied was she knew I knew she was lying, and she did it anyway. There is no word in English that captures that. It almost crosses over from bravado into mental illness. "

23. The Hulk claims Karl Rove was present during the conversation
and backs her up. Convenient, no?

Too bad. I think Robertson is about to experience the patented Bush Big Chill. He has been noticed in the building.

Can Shrub really get away with that and kiss off Robertson's many sheeplike followers? Stay tuned...

7. I NEED POPCORN!!!

Oh, this should be good.

"The Whitehouse" just called Mr. False Prophet a liar. Now, I happen to think this is probably one of the more accurate things that's come out of the WH in the last four years, but it will be interesting to see how this plays with the radical fundie crowd.

11. Thank goodness this came up the same time as the comment
by THK. Let's face it, anyone who was going to be offended by Teresa saying she didn't think Laura had ever had a real job wasn't planning to vote for John Kerry anyway. Whereas, now the fundies have a dilemma-which one of their "men of God" is a liar. Cuz sure as hell one of them is. Trust the media to help them both spin it wildly though, while constantly lambasting Teresa for her candor. And where is the outrage about the non-release on the 9-11 report that names names from our brave mainstream media whores? They are going to be the reason we lose, IF we do. Personally, I don't understand how anyone could be voting for Shrub, but then, I'm not a dumb, blind, brainwashed sheep.

22. minor correction
Not just exactly one, but rather: at least one of them is lying. They may both be lying and in fact that is where I would put my money. They may be lying by omission or comission or both. Remember, you have to have a really good memory if you lie all of the time and neither of these two have appeared to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

28. Evidently gawed can't make up his mind!
In January, Robertson told viewers during his "700 Club" television program that God had told him Bush would win re-election in a blowout." In the CNN interview, Robertson said he believes Bush will win by a "razor-thin" margin but by a substantial Electoral College victory.

In the end they will patch it up, and Robertson will take one for the prez - "It turns out the deceiver Satan had whispered a lie into my ear."

34. Everyone should know by now that the White House never ever
makes a mistake. And if anyone wants the truth, Karen Hughes will always be around to straighten people out.

My God anyone who has ever been Senior Bush campaign adviser and a longtime confidant of junior must be telling the truth.

This women Karen Hughes is right up there in with "Mother Teresa"
