AP: Clinton to campaign for Kerry in Philly
Former President Clinton will campaign for Sen. John Kerry early next week in Philadelphia, a senior Democratic official who is familiar with the former president's plans said Tuesday.

It was unclear whether Kerry would be there, too. But Clinton, who is recovering from heart surgery, has agreed to the appearance for his fellow Democrat, who is locked in a tight race against President Bush, the official said.

Kerry's campaign also has outlined for Clinton other ways he can help rally voters and participate in the last two weeks of the presidential campaign, including visits to battleground states.

"There has been some discussion with the former president about things that will be great for him to do," said Kerry adviser Mike McCurry. "We're hoping that something will be able to come together."

4. See, now THAT's EXCITING!!!!!
If I were paranoid, I'd think that Republicans aimed some super undetectable bioterrorist weapon at Clinton to weaken his heart just in time to keep him out of the campaign!

I am SOOOOOOO happy to see him campaigning. I hope he'll agree to strategic appearances in states or among constituencies where he is still loved and respected. I'm sure the Kerry campaign recognizes that if he goes to the WRONG places, it could cost votes.

8. I had the same paranoid thoughts-
They MUST be involved somehow, you know? But I can't think of a logical explanation how. Of course, they don't need logic to blame Clinton for everything, do they.

7. Thank Goodness! Im so glad...
hes using Clinton, unlike Gore, which probably cost him the election (when accounted for GOP stealing/cheating).

12. Be careful there, Big Dog.
Make sure you're rested and pace yourself.

Given that Clinton is apparently a natural extrovert, he will probably be energized by the crowd (and bask in the adoration). Still, I hope he'll take good care of himsself and not overdo it. We want him around for decades to come.

13. As someone who had the same surgery as Clinton three years ago
I can tell you that after about three weeks, you're so damned sick of sitting around that you just want to get off your butt and do something -- anything -- active.
After six weeks, I was back working at the truss plant -- physical labor, too. Truth is, you feel a HELL of a lot better once the soreness goes away. In my case, and probably Bill's, they run a Roto-Rooter from a spot on your right leg about two inches from your naughty bits clean up to your heart. For me, the stent went into my right coronary artery which had, like, totally collapsed. Everything in my greater pelvic region was the color of Cherry Coke for about two weeks. But it got better and got better in a hurry.
John
I expect to see Bubba back bigger and badder than ever. Proper blood flow does wonders for a person, after all. A healthy Bill Clinton is the Rethugs worst nightmare. Time to sic the Big Dog on 'em.

14. What, in your expert opinion, would be the consequences
for Clinton if he were to overextend himself?

Would he just delay his recovery? Or would he put himself in danger for a heart attack?

I saw a couple of stories on this subject today that insinuated that Clinton would rather get ready for the opening of his library later in November than use his energy to defeat Bush.

I believe these stories to be scurrilous. Surely Clinton understands that his library opening may be postponed, but campaigning cannot. The stakes are just too high.

21. Thanks for the colorful description!
I'm glad you are doing well, and I hope to hear the same about the Big Dog.

And you're right; the Big Dog Unleashed Tour 2004 might be just what the doctor ordered.

15. Why Philly? Isn't that a solid Democratic area? If he's gonna venture
out, take him to Arkansas or Louisiana or ???, right?

Either way, Go Big Dog, Go Kerry!

17. Put your strength where your strength is -- a solid political rule.
As a kid, I always thought the opposite, too. But later I learned the Kennedys have always lived by the rule of "Put your strength where your strength is."

Obviously it doesn't apply to states safely in one column or another. But in a swing state, the rule means to go where you're strongest and energize those people as a way of generating the best numbers on election day.

20. Why not go to Arkansas where he is needed?
PA is moot. Arkansas appears to be Bush country and needs its president to bring it home. Why not Arkansas?
