Hundreds rally in D.C. against Bush
By The Associated Press

October 17, 2004, 7:47 PM EDT

WASHINGTON -- Hundreds of workers gathered at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday to demand health care, better wages, guaranteed Social Security benefits and an end to the war in Iraq.

Many of the longshoremen, transit workers, carpenters and mail carriers carried signs saying "Bush lied, thousands died," "More money for jobs, not war" and others. In the decidedly anti-President Bush atmosphere, some wore T-shirts and badges advocating the election of Democrat John Kerry or Reform Party candidate Ralph Nader.

2. Hundred thousand was what I read earlier.
And I believe that was the Park Sevice estimate, notorious for undercounting.

3. I caught that today on C-span!!
IT WAS GREAT!! Got me all worked up! It was suppose to be the "Million Workers March". Didn't quite get a million but they kicked butt anyway!

Can't remember all the singers; there was a single woman with guitar who LET 'ER RIP with her anti-greed, pro worker tune. can they say that stuff on TV? LOL

Honestly, that group, in all it's various coalitions, is where my heart truly is. I'm much more of a socialist--pro people, pro jobs, pro societal responsibility. I think if there is healthcare for anyone in this country, then it should be available to all the people in this country. (IE:If ALL of us are starving, I can't beg for anything more than anyone else is getting).

Therefore, under the circumstances, Healthcare IS A RIGHT. Affordable housing is a RIGHT. Higher wages are ETHICAL. Keeping jobs at home is ETHICAL.

Wow, that little rally today GOT ME STARTED! Woohooooooo :D
