Initials put on Inuit land claim
WebPosted Aug 29 2003 03:37 PM NDT

ST. JOHN'S — The 5,300 members of the Labrador Inuit Associations moved closer to self government with the initialling Friday afternoon of a land claim agreement with Ottawa and the province.

The ceremony was held in St. John's, where the chief negotiators for the governments and Inuit put their initials on the agreement.

The agreement still has to be ratified by the Inuit in a referendum, and by the House of Assembly and Parliament.
