A Boeing 747 cargo plane crashed on takeoff at Halifax airport early Thursday, killing the seven crew aboard, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., reported.

The 20-year-old MK Airlines aircraft ended up in a rock quarry with debris extending into a wooded are past the end of runway 6 around 3:50 a.m. Atlantic time

"Already, speculation is mounting that the 20-year-old plane turned onto the Halifax International Airport's longest runway at the wrong place, and simply ran out of room for a proper takeoff.

Investigators said it's too early to rule out any cause, though, including some other kind of human error, a load of cargo that was too heavy, a bird being sucked into an engine, or even terrorism."

The company involved, a Nigerian company, doesn't have a great safety record.

4. Know that place...
Did a robotics project at a Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine parts plant near the airport back in 1988.
