Bush* Winds Down Vacation at the Ranch
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - He's spent the month clearing brush on his secluded ranch, jogging in 100-degree heat and watching lightning streak across the Texas sky. But come Saturday, President Bush trades wide-open, grassy pastures for the confines of the White House.

Bush's monthlong stay at what he calls the Western White House was interrupted by the bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad, violence in the Middle East, continuing battles in Iraq and trips to seven states. He also raised $6.6 million for his campaign and talked about national parks, wildfires, saving Pacific salmon and the war in Iraq.

(snip)

Members of the press corps who followed Bush to Texas for the month were invited to the ranch on Wednesday evening. They piled into trucks and Bush, leading the way at the wheel of his white pickup, led a tour of his beloved 1,583-acre spread, pointing out trees, cliffs, creek beds, flowers and wildlife.

The event was off the record, but reporters were overheard talking with Bush about foreign trips, sports, fishing and the Bushes twin daughters. One TV crew member asked the president for advice about training for an upcoming marathon. Another correspondent pleaded with him to make more visits to the press cabin aboard Air Force One.

5. They are victims of the Stockholm syndrome!

That's it! He keeps the press stranded in a desert with 100 degree temps all summer- any surrender on their parts would be career suicide- and then he makes a gratuitous gesture. They respond by licking his hand like dogs.

6. How much brush is there to clear?
Jeez, you would think that the idiots who fall for this "salt-of-the-earth" routine about "clearing brush" would start to wonder just how much brush needs to be cleared from the Shrub's stage prop of a ranch. I guess that's all he can do since he is apparently afraid to ride a horse.

7. Watch how quickly.................
the "western White House" is sold after he loses his bid to become President. The stage props are the first things to be struck after an unsuccessful show winds up.

8. Phoney to the Core: the Old Crawford Ranch
http://www.democrats.com/view.cfm?id=6687

Have you seen all those article and pictures of Bush "at home on the ranch" in Crawford - the ones that imply that he is "just an ole ranch hand" more comfortable on the family homestead than in the "Big City," be it Austin or D.C.? Well, if you bought this image, you've been royally snuckered. The Bush family homestead in Crawford is nothing more than an elaborate set. The house, built in 2000, was designed to be ready for Bush to step into - like a set awaiting an actor - during the 2000 presidential election. Not only was the "ranch" created in 2000 - so, essentially, was the "town" of Crawford! Before then only about 400 people lived in the area. The Crawford Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture were formed shortly after the ranch was finished.

12. He's as much of a "Rancher" as he is a "Soldier"
All created for the Media, he's really a rich "COKE-HEAD" who follows the script of his handlers and Corporate Masters unflinchingly.
But underneath it all he's really an AWOL CHIMPANZEE

14. I was wondering if anyone had kept track
So that amounts to 20% of his term! The economy is a mess, we're engaged in conflicts all over the globe, and this bozo has spent one of every five days "clearing brush" on that play ranch of his. Wouldn't it be nice if the average citizen could have 10 weeks or so of taxpayer-paid vacation every year??

Oh, and let's not forget the mini-getaways at Camp David, either. Perhaps the real question is just how much time has Bush actually spent at the White House! I'd really be interested to know, not that the press gives a damn so they won't be reporting those figures anytime soon.

This issue needs to be jumped on by Dem candidates!

15. Contrast these images
Bush lolling on his Crawford ranch with the pictures of the working class homes and anxiety- or grief-sticken people in television stories about the families of the troops in Iraq.
