Verizon Wireless can’t block union ads, demonstrations

WASHINGTON—A federal arbitrator has denied Verizon Wireless’ effort to block organized labor from running ads critical of the No. 1 mobile-phone carrier and holding public demonstrations in front of its stores to air grievances.

The Communications Workers of America, which represents 51 cell site workers and switch technicians in lower Manhattan, is in a heated dispute over a new contract. The old contract expired Aug. 1. CWA wants better job security, wages and benefits for union members.

The two sides are also fighting over a neutrality agreement in effect until next year allowing Verizon Wireless workers to unionize without interference from management.

Dean Meets with CWA Members in Burlington

Howard Dean joined local Verizon Wireless workers here in Burlington earlier this afternoon at a rally in support of Communications Workers of America members who are seeking a fair contract with the company. CWA Vice President of the New England District Chris Shelton introduced the Governor.

3. Don't get your hopes up
CWA will go with Gephardt. No two ways about it.

2. HEE HEE
I love the CWA. I used to work for Bellsouth Communications, and I hope I get back on there, because that union made sure you had a place to go when management was being an ass.

I work in healthcare now and the Human Resources department is questionablely worthless depending on whom you speak to in it. The management here, at least in my department, is also incompetant and has so much as voiced they could care less if everyone in here is fired.

I so want a union job again. *sob*
