Wis. Man Endorses Kerry in Wife's Obit
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 3:54 p.m. ET

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Send no flowers to commemorate Jane Buffett's death, her husband asks. Instead, send John Kerry to the White House.

In a paid obituary published in Madison's two daily newspapers, Roger Buffett celebrated his wife's years as a mother, homemaker, grandmother and English teacher. But, he said, she was ``outraged'' by President Bush's decision to invade Iraq and then expecting ``her grandchildren to pay the bills.'' Other Bush administration policies angered her as well.

``She saw John Kerry as the candidate who would most conserve everything she valued,'' the obituary said. ``Jane fought to live long enough to be able to vote this November. To honor her memory, please do everything you can to elect John Kerry.''

Jane Buffett, 64, died of cancer Sept. 25. The obituary, which called her a ``fiery woman,'' appeared Monday.

2. I don't ask this disrespectfully..
...only because she seemed to feel so strongly about the election. Was she able to cast an absentee ballot? And, the broader question: if someone is fairly sure that he/she will die before an election, can they request an absentee ballot and have it counted? In other words, do you have to be alive when your vote is counted, or only (obviuosly) when it is cast ?

a deceased candidate as has been done, why couldn't a person's vote cast in advance of his/her death be counted. Remember the Senator in Missouri, maybe? who died who beat a repug and his wife took his seat..McClanahan?? not sure of the details, but I do know that it's been done.

4. Sorry I think this is grotesque
There are some things more important than politics.

Please don't ask why I feel so strongly about this.
