Consumer Sentiment Down Slightly(Michigan confirms Conf Bd-worse than expected)

NEW YORK - Consumers' assessment of the economy slipped marginally at the end of September, says a report released Friday.

The University of Michigan's subscriber-only final report on consumer sentiment for the month was said by those who had seen it to have moved to 94.2 at the end of the month, versus the 95.9 reading it stood at in August.

The preliminary reading for September had been reported at 95.8 earlier in the month. Michigan data is released only to those who pay for the report.

September's reading was worse than the median forecast of 95.9 found in a survey of economists conducted by Dow Jones Newswires. <snip>

Earlier this week, the Conference Board reported that consumer confidence slipped in its much broader September survey due to worries about the labor market. <snip>
