Madison Woman's Obituary: Please Elect John Kerry
Madison Woman's Obituary: Please Elect John Kerry

Anonymous Caller: 'Hopefully On The Day That Bush Gets Elected She'll Burn In Hell!'

MADISON, Wis. -- The world of politics has been taken to a whole new level and sparked quite a response from some. A Madison man is using his wife's obituary to push her passion for politics.

Jane Buffet passed away Saturday from myeloma, a cancer in her bones. Roger Buffet didn't know their 40th wedding anniversary last month would be their last. Now he's hoping all her work in the community and her passion for politics will live on.

"She may be dead, but everything she was working for and everything she cared about, it was about the future," Roger said.

While, traditionally, yard signs are ways to support a candidate, in Jane Buffet's obit, her final statement reads, "To honor her memory, please do everything you can to elect John Kerry."

1. OH! THAT IS IT!!
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 10:41 AM by Coventina
I'm referring to the comment by the anonymous caller.

You know, I was raised very conservative Christian, but now am un-churched and consider myself "Christo-Pagan".

That comment has to be the most Un-CHRISTIAN, UN-CHRIST-LIKE, HATEFUL, EVIL, IMMATURE, STUPID, UNFEELING, DISRESPECTFUL thing I have EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!

THAT IS JUST IT! Dear Jesus, PLEASE PROTECT ME FROM YOUR FOLLOWERS!!!

I love Jesus for who he was/is and did. THESE PEOPLE WOULDN'T KNOW JESUS IF HE CAME UP TO THEM AND SHOWED THEM HIS HANDS.

AAAAAAAERRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!

I am DONE WITH "CHRISTIANS". I'M STICKING WITH CHRIST!!!!!

on edit: had to fix typo that resulted from frenzied anger

2. Exactly so
That is "it". My challenge is not to turn the rage I hate back on them.

But! They can't take the name "Christian" from me. I will name them "Kristians", a very different animal.

My Mother left her church of 50 years over intolerance. She's found another that practices the broader principles of faith- one of the denominations that admonished Bush before the invasion. I see her really struggling- knowing she's right, but it is very hard to stand up when the ground seems to have shifted. I'm so proud of her.

Be done with Kristians, Coventina, and then you won't be done with me (or Mom!)

3. Sorry, I kind of had a rage explosion
You make a good point. I know there are good Christians out there, who take following Christ seriously.

Your re-naming of the freaks is a good idea. How about KKKristians?
A sort of reminder that they are coming out of a framework of intolerance? Your "Kristians" gave me the idea.

4. I have the same issues
Coventina -

Nowadays when the first thing someone tells me is that they're a KKKristian, I wait for the next sentence to contain some bigoted sentiment. So far, I have not been proven wrong.

14. You mean like this e-mail I got the other day from a KKKristian
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 02:50 PM by 54anickel
I hate to admit to it, but this is from a relative of mine. I did reply, but never got a response. Geez what hate-mongering! This is being spread all over the place by e-mail.

Subject: Christmas Stamp DON'T BUY IT
How ironic is this??!! They don't even believe in Christ and they're getting their own Christmas stamp, but don't dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property?
USPS New Stamp
This one is impossible to believe. Scroll down for the text.
If there is only one thing you forward today.....let it be this
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of PanAm Flight 103!
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military barracks in Saudi Arabia
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bomb! ing of the American Embassies in Africa
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!
REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11/2001!
REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now the United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the
EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp.
REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp when purchasing your stamps at the post office. To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.
REMEMBER to pass this along to every patriotic AMERICAN you know.

5. I am not at all religious
...but from an academic perspective, I would imagine that Christ would be horrified at what people do "In His Name!" You'd think these people who love Christ so much would be tearing their cloaks in half to shield the naked, so to speak, feeding the hungry, comforting the sick, giving alms to the poor, forswearing shellfish, all that Bible stuff.

I usually tell people who give me shit 'In Jesus' Name' that they need to go back and read their good little book, and maybe try to imitate the deeds of their Lord and Savior, As Was His Will (doncha love how they capitalize words, like a cap makes it So Much More Important?).

It usually Shuts Them Up! Praise Be!

6. Unbelievable, isn't it?
I went to my 20th HS reunion this summer.

I'd say a good 2/3 of the class put some sort of crap in the memory book about how they've now "dedicated their lives to Christ." And my beef was that they had to mention it. Who cares? Do what you want. Just ACT like it. ACT like a freaking Christian already.

Why is it so necessary to talk about it and give it all thsi lip service, and then not live what you believe? Pharisees anyone?

Coincidentally, these same people noted "Conservative" in their political preference.

I made it my personal mission to talk to many of them during our events, and when they asked me what I'd been doing the last few years, I said "Well, lots of voter registration, marching in Washington, helping Howard Dean in Iowa, educating women about choice by volunteering at Planned Parenthood, and working to get Bush out of office."

Then I'd be all sweet and say I needed to go say hi to someone else before their heads exploded. I got lots of glares after that. :D

I like the KKKristians idea. Mind if I borrow?

10. A handy rejoinder for you...
"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Matthew Chpt 6, verses 5-6

11. Thanks HP!
I'll be sure to copy that down for future reference!

I had 4 years of Catholic school, but have been remiss in learning chapter and verse.

8. I usually ask them...
... if they have recently read the book of Matthew, Chapters 5, 6 & 7 -- and also ask them if they recognize, specifically, that particular reference (it is Jesus' Sermon on the Mount). If they truly believe that Christ is the son of God, then the kind of hatefulness and warmongering exampled above are in direct contradiction to Christ's own teachings.

But then, I see very little of Christ in most expressions of Christianity these days.
