Post-Debate Polls Favor Kerry
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/debate_rdp

<snip>

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - President Bush (news - web sites) and Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) rushed back to the campaign trail Friday to try to convince voters they had won their debate over foreign policy and to continue the argument over whether going to war in Iraq (news - web sites) had made the nation safer. Three post-debate polls suggested voters who watched the policy-driven confrontation Thursday night were impressed by Kerry, with most of those surveyed saying he did better than Bush.

Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites), said Friday he told Kerry after the debate "I think people saw the next commander in chief," and he criticized Bush for failing to acknowledge problems in Iraq. "You can't fix a problem if you're not willing to admit that mistakes have been made and that you have a problem," he told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Bush, however, "felt great" about his performance Thursday night and believed he had articulated the strategy and resolve with which he is fighting the war on terror, White House communications director Dan Bartlett said. "I think he spoke from the heart, spoke with strength about the necessity for our country to fight the terrorists over there so we don't have to face them here at home," Bartlett told ABC. "He had a good time last night."

Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), the Arizona Republican who informally advised Bush on how to debate his friend and Senate colleague, told reporters in Miami on Friday that the debate was probably Kerry's "brightest moment" in the last six weeks. "He presented himself well, John did," McCain said. "Kerry came out slugging."

1. Is that the face of a man who 'had a good time' last night?
Doesn't look that way to me.

"...believed he had articulated the strategy..."
I believe he bungled his way through it in the most inarticulate manner possible, avoided giving any details about his Iraq 'strategy' and basically couldn't have done much worse without shitting himself publicly.

That circular rhetoric is hardly articulation of policy.

42. Speaking of - wonder if SNL will have a skit this weekend
of the debate.

Their stuff in 2000 was great IMHO. Best were Poppy thinking of taking out Jr during the deer hunt, the Odd Couple co-presidents Gore and Dubya, and the one that was prescient of * hiding under the desk as the world burned - didn't he say something like "this is hard"?

10. Excellent!
Edwards: "You can't fix a problem if you're not willing to admit that mistakes have been made and that you have a problem"

And Bush, "felt great" about his performance

I can live with Bush not accepting problems if it also means he can't see the problems with his debating skills and fix them before the next debate.

Don't let the whitehouse door hit you on the way out bunnypants!

29. He SHOULD end up worse. What Nixon did pales in comparison
to the Commander Bunnypants Brigade. This is the closest this country has ever come to undergoing a paradigm shift in democratic principles based on the actions of a corrupt administration. Another term could blow big holes in our freedoms and lurch us forward into totalitarianism under the thin veil of 'public safety.'

45. History will rate W far far below nixon...
Nixon at least had several positive accomplishments to show for his tenure. Clean air act, negotiations with China, etc.

W has no bright spots. "Like polishing a turd". No bright spots under the rough turd exterior, just more turd.

44. However, FAUX is the "news" source
for so many uninformed, poltically passive Americans. That's why I posted the link to the poll site. By the more informed and politically active Americans, such as those of us here on DU, that poll could be affected and changed to show the real response from across the US.

(The link now leads to a different story, btw. I'm reacting to the original poll article.)

Notice how not once in an article about poll results did it mention the actual numbers? WTF? Wouldn't that be a natural addition? Whatsamatter, AP, don't want the world to see just how BADLY Bush got his ass handed to him?

God, how I hate the media.

21. fight the terrorists over there so we don't have to face them here
That is all they have left and it's a lie. They have to keep connecting the war in Iraq with 9/11 to hold on to the idiot, freeper, kool aid drinking base.

The wealthy don't give a shit about terrorism because they can buy their way out of anything so they support Bush because they want another tax break. Bush reassured them last night that tax breaks are more important than homeland security.

But to keep Joe six pack and his wife in line they use that "fight them over there" bull shit.

I hear them repeat that over and over on C-span in the morning.

If Kerry can convincingly put that idea to bed he may pick up more repub votes. He got Bush to admit that Saddam was not responcible for 9/11. That's a start.

38. That's such a selfish and piggish thing to say
Even if it were true, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the world? "We're going to kill and maim your people, destroy your infrastructure, pollute your soil, water, and air, and leave behind radiactive uranium and tons of land mines - just in case somebody tries to attack us again one day."

Imagine how we would feel if China decided to invade and trash the United States just on the off-chance that Japan might bother them again?

It's ludicrous. It's hateful.
