Kmart might move its headquarters (from Michigan to Atlanta)

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Retailer Kmart Holdings Corp. is considering moving its headquarters from Michigan, the state's economic development agency said.

"We understand that the company is considering leaving its Troy (Mich.) headquarters," Paul Krepps, managing director of communications at the Michigan Economic Development Council, said Thursday. "My understanding is that they've been working with a site consultant and are exploring different opportunities."

A spokesman for Kmart (KMRT: Research, Estimates) declined to comment. Kmart had slightly more than 2,000 headquarters workers as of February, and said it was cutting 10 percent of its headquarters staff in August.

2. On second thought, may be they should move it inside a garage.
Now they can call themselves the riches to rags story.

3. If they do, I will never shop at K-Mart again
I like some of their products, in particular, Martha Stewart stuff. Also, I buy lots of small electrical things there, like hot rollers, hair dryers, toasters, stuff like that when I need to replace the old ones. They usually have good prices on that kind of merchandise. But I live in Michigan, where we have lost so many of our home retail stores-Crowley's, Jacobson's, Steketee's, all have gone under. Hudson's is now Marshall Field's and may become Macy's.

K-Mart, Meijer and Borders are all we have left as far as Michigan-based national chains go.
