Edwards: Religion Shouldn't Divide Voters

Friday October 1, 2004 5:46 AM

By VICKI SMITH

Associated Press Writer

WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) - John Edwards says voters should know that religion is important to him and to presidential candidate John Kerry but the issue shouldn't be used to divide people in the election.

``My faith is very important to me, and the same is true of John Kerry,'' the Democratic vice presidential candidate and son of a deacon said in a brief interview with The Associated Press after a campaign stop in West Virginia.

``The two of us talk about our faith - with each other,'' he said Wednesday. ``Our faith is important to us and it's always been important to us, and people should know that.''

Edwards, a Methodist, said most Americans want a good leader - a man who is a good husband and a good father - ``and if they're a person of faith, that helps.''

3. ..
"democrats embrace faith, republicans require it" true, but I think a good alternative would be "Democrats repsect faith(s), Republicans descrate and belittle it"

Right wing thinking DOES NOT represent anything Christianity (the religion in question here) stands for.

4. It's the difference between
practicing your own faith, which we are all free to do, and cramming your faith down everyone else's throats, which Bush thinks he is free to do.

5. I'm always astonished
that such a speech is needed for being an US presidential candidate in the 21st century

11. Christian Bush supporters
In my own personal experience these Christian's who follow Bush are not KKKristians. They just believe the lie. They don't read the internet. They trust the media. They think Bush is a good christian man. Considering the way the right has used its propaganda to brainwash christians specifically, it should be no surprise that it's working.

9. jesus, at the article's end
The RNC responds to criticism of 'liberals will ban bibles' with this...

``It was an issue that was already out there. It was obviously on the minds of voters.''

Yes, and they felt it was up to them to spread the lie even further. :eyes:

10. Debate is in Philadelphia?
Saw article in Cleveland Plain Dealer this morning.
Debate between Edwards and Cheney is in Cleveland not
Philadelphia. It is being held at Case Western University and I hope to catch a glimpse of Cheney's Motorcade and pop him the bird.
