GOP Leader Wants To Boycott United Way Over Scavenger Hunt - Miami Herald
<snip>

AKRON, Ohio AP) - A Republican leader is calling for a boycott of the United Way of Summit County after a fund-raising scavenger hunt sent participants into a local Democratic Party office.

County GOP Chairman Alex Arshinkoff says he also will try to get United Way's federal tax-exempt status revoked because of its partisan involvement.

The employer-sponsored scavenger hunt sent participants to the Akron office of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in search of a piece of campaign literature about a Democratic candidate for common pleas judge.

"This is a classic example of the liberal bias of the social activists," Arshinkoff said on Monday. "I'm upset, and I'm going to be leading the effort unless there is an apology to the president of the United States and Judy Hunter."

1. This is a joke, right?
It had to be in the Onion.

This is way too absurd to have happened in reality.

2. Is this like the $100,000 check Tom Craddick took from a
corporation in Texas for a PAC, which was completely illegal? He just said, "I never looked at it to realize it was a check" and all is forgiven. Is it that kind of scavenger hunt?

Or was this more like a game for a charity?

When every Repuke who lies, cheats, and steals, including the a-hole in chief, is dragged into the public stocks to be ridiculed and spat upon, I'm going to worry about this scavenger hunt and Dan Rather.

Until then, give me a fucking break!

5. Yeah those goldern Liberal Social Activists
Who do they think they are, trying to help the downtrodden? Tell 'em all to just get a job. Man oh man, just when one thinks he has heard it all, the repubs pull this kind of nonsense. I am reminded of a line from an old cartoon,"Duh, which way did he go?". That seems to be the mentality with Arshinkoff here.

7. Oh. My. God.
This is the pettiest, most childish thing I've read yet today (other than that dumbass Horowitz). This is ironic, especially in light of the fundamentalist and evangelical churches in this country campaigning for Bush. I went into a church once and heard the preacher praising Ashcroft. Gimme a break!

11. Why would the united way need to apology to the President?
Quote: "I'm upset, and I'm going to be leading the effort unless there is an apology to the president of the United States and Judy Hunter."..Why the President..or is Mr Arshinkoff just invoking him title to add some "treasonous" underpinnings to this whole mistake?..I understand an apology to judge Hunter but to the President?...Sorry I do see the need for that.

He is willing to go to court over something so small and try and force a boycott over this is just mind-numing...for what? a small mistake?...come on the United Way does some great things out there to help millions, to try and boycott a fund raising drive that helps alot of people is a bit selfish....It's not like the United Way was working with churches to get folks out to vote against a certain candidate(which is against the law when dealing with tax exempt status) or setting up make-believe stories about a persons service and have those persons lie about it and sell books and get talks show to air there lies when there is zero information to back it up or have persons wear an object that denigrate all services persons who have and will be hurt in battle just because you don't like to hear the truth.

If Mr Arshinkoff really cared about bi-partisanship and wanted to make sure there was no collusion from any group he might want to get a good look at his own party and then come back to the United Way with a bit of a fresh perspective, until then stop asking for the sun, moon and the stars over such a small mistake.

One needs look no further then ones self to find fault in the world

14. Of COURSE charities have a liberal bias, idiot rethugs! You're too
busy devoting your charity to yourselves, CEOs of large corporations, people who live off daddy's or grandaddy's or great granddaddy's hard work, and thuggish dictors who happen to be friends of the Bush family (And who are friends of the Bush family because they have lots of oil and money).

Wasn't the United Way the same organization that cancelled a Florida fundraiser because some Repukes had an objection to the speaker Susan Sarandon?
They are hardly a Democratic-friendly outfit...

16. Yes, one and the same.
Isn't there an old curse that runs along the lines of 'May you live in interesting times'?

Never gave it much thought before, but I do believe those 'interesting' times are upon us.
