3. This may sound insane, but an event like this could turn the press
against Bush and in effect, be KEY in the coming election.

If this poor bloke gets off-ed, it will have a chilling effect on the media ... The failure of the current admin to "protect" and secure Iraq may suddenly become part of the MEDIA consciousness.

This could have a MAJOR effect on how the idiots about to vote for Bush, view this whole mess.

5. It will take way more than one kidnapping.
Remember who has the keys to the kingdom back home (that would be Michael Powell at the FCC...).

9. Unfortunately, they will just do what their BOSSES tell them.
Media firms are corporations and will do what's good for corporations.......

7. Huh? This kidnapping was in GAZA, not Iraq.

10. I don't think that will matter
The same "fuzzy logic" that led so many people to equate al-Qaeda with Saddam Hussein will lead them to equate Iraq with the Middle East in general.

Besides, the jihad is pan-Islamic. That's what happens when an incompetant, arrogant leader whacks a hornet's nest.

13. Good point. LOL

I guess my original "failure to secure Iraq" point is moot. :P

"Nevermind .... BITCH"

However, it's loosely related to the general instability that Bush has flamed in the region?

8. You're correct.

It might actually hit home at CNN just how bad the situation is in the mideast. And then they'd have to cover it.

This is, of course, assuming that they have some form of conscience..

11. A great many journalists have been blown to bits already...
in Afghanistan and Iraq. One was kidnapped and beheaded in Pakistan.

Haven't all the jounalists with any integrity already turned? Why would this one be the last straw?

14. You're thinking of the Ted Turner CNN.
Gone. The Faux clone CNN will not turn until it benefits their bottom line. And I don't mean the truth. That's got nothing to do with it these days.

16. I wish it were so but
there have been losses at ABC, NBC, BBC, the WP, the Globe, and Daniel Pearl was with the WSJ.

Money trumps right with the most powerful news orgs. Ironically, Rather was probably one of the staunchest believers in taking a stab at journalistic integrity (albeit, somewhat self-agrandizing) and the others chewed him up for their own glory.
