(Thumbs Up) England to Be Court-Martialed in Jan.
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040927_396.html

FORT BRAGG, N.C. Sept. 27, 2004 — Pfc. Lynndie England will be court-martialed in January on charges stemming from the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, the Army announced Monday.

A motions hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1-3, with the trial scheduled for Jan. 17-28, according to Lt. Gen. John Vines, commander of the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.

England, a 21-year-old reservist stationed at Fort Bragg who is seen in some of the most notorious photos taken at the prison, was arraigned Friday, and did not enter a plea.

If convicted of all 19 counts, she could receive up to 38 years in jail, a dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Hearing officer Col. Denise Arn had recommended that England be court-martialed on 17 counts of abuse and indecent acts. In deciding on a court-martial, Vines reinstated two counts that Arn had recommended be dropped.

2. I totally agree; however
it won't happen. Those slimeballs at the top will allow England and all of the rest of the torturers to be punished for following RummyDummy's orders, and will lose no sleep over it. That said, I am glad she has been charged and faces a long court martial. There are no words to express the rupugnant behavior of her and her fellow soldiers. "Follwing orders" didn't work for the Nazi's, nor should it work for England and anyone else that participated in the TORTURE of those people at Abu Graib!

5. I wonder if she will take her pro *
stickers off her car now?

I don't feel sorry for her at all. She is disgraceful and repugnant. However, some higer ups have a hand in all this and they are getting away scot free so far.

7. What should her sentence be?
In accordance with what we know now and the anticipation that no further acts are divulged, what should her punishment be?

Keep in mind, that all of those above her, especially officers, will probably just receive a nasty OER (evaluation) that stops their future promotions.

Another thing to consider - how she has become the poster child for all of this abuse, when contrasted to the other abuse (rape, dog attacks, murder) her participation is of relatively lesser comparable acts of abuse (dog leash, posing and pointing et cetera - I'm not saying this isn't wrong or terrible behavior, but contrasted to the 27 or so murders, her abuse involvement is much different, but she has become the most recognizable figure - and is it because she is unattractive, uneducated and lacking in connections?).

Also, what about Rumsfeld? This man asked for opinions about what is torture and what is not and was told that these "enemy combatants" are not seen as true soldiers and were not protected by Geneva and other regulations.

8. Every time I see a "Pray For Our Troops" sticker, I think of Lynndie.
Only a miracle will save her (or her bosses up the line) from eternal damnation.

12. Can't they at least find a corporal to blame for this abuse?
When I heard they were going to try to pin it all on a PFC. I thought it was a joke. I never thought PFCs had so much authority.

13. Hmm, January trial date; what this means
11/3/2004 - Bush loses - She starts naming names - 1/19/2005 - Bush starts tossing out Presidential pardons more than Shriners in go-karts toss candy.

11/3/2004 - Bush steals another one - Lynddie takes the fall, pleads guilty. Bush pardons her after her trial is completed and before sentencing, asks America to "move on".

17. Other young woman
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 02:29 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
I thought the other young woman was immeasurably more hideous than England.

Sure, this ornament of womankind - forget her name now - was physically beautiful, to begin with, but the expression of utter joy on her face made her even more desperately attractive. Until you saw what was turning her on to such an ecstasy ... Ughhh! I think she was National Guard and managerial level in civvie street. I think her name was Sabrina Harman.

18. I feel sorry for her kid
She did wrong but where were the CO's? I think that's what everyone has been asking. These weren't isolated incidents of abuse, we know now that the medical staff was in on it because they were sticking IV's in dead people when the red cross would come in. How far did this go up the chain? This kind of stuff shouldn't have happened without the commanders knowing about it. I can see this happening once and then being reprimand her for it, but now she's probably going away for 30+ years and her kid will be raised without a mother.
