Kerry Ad Labels Bush Politics 'Despicable'
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 08:17 PM by Pirate Smile
WASHINGTON - Presidential candidate John Kerry - responding to a Republican group's ad that portrays the senator as soft on terrorism -accused President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney of "despicable politics" in a new commercial that the Democrat's campaign rolled out Saturday.

Kerry's ad claims that the Republican ticket is "using the appalling and divisive strategy of playing politics with the war on terror, a strategy that undermines the efforts to combat terrorists in America and puts George Bush's own ambition ahead of the national good."

The ad responds to one running in Iowa and Wisconsin by Progress for America Voter Fund, an affiliate of a group created by longtime Republican consultant and former Bush aide Tony Feather. The fund's ad shows Sept. 11 hijacker Mohammed Atta, Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein and references terrorist attacks in Russia, Spain and the United States. "Would you trust Kerry against these fanatic killers?" the ad asks.

Kerry's campaign called the fund "a right-wing front group doing Bush's dirty work." Kerry's campaign also released one statement from former Sen. Max Cleland calling on Bush to condemn the "un-American" ad and another from former Sen. Bob Kerrey vouching for Kerry's "commitment to protecting America and strengthening our intelligence."

I live in Iowa and I haven't seen or heard anything about these ads yet. Now that is a quick response.

The polls are fake so when they switch the votes in the computer no one will even question it.

"When we consider protecting America against terrorist attacks, maybe we should remember who was on the watch on Sept 11"

Just once is all.

6. I agree, it is too whiney to ask them to stop...the politics of Spongebob-
Stooooppppp!!! Forget it. Just tell the truth and call them liars.

But I do think the campaign has toughened up its message in the last couple of weeks.

And our response time in counteracting these types of ad atrocities by the GOP has improved dramatically.

All told, I am becoming impressed again, with the Kerry campaign.

past experience shows that the pResident won't do the honorable thing like condeming the ad so we're just going to call a spade a spade...let the American people judge stuff like that

7. I don't see anywhere in that article where it said they called on the
Repubs to stop. Where do you see that?

They call the ad despicable and say * is putting his own ambition ahead of the good of the country.

What the hell is wrong with that?

9. Kerry has had nine different positions on Iraq
Steve Schmidt, a Bush campaign spokesman, dismissed the Kerry campaign's criticism and ad. He said that Kerry has had nine different positions on Iraq, "sending mixed signals to our enemies and to our allies, the consequences of which will make America less secure.''

How many reasons has Bush given for invading Iraq? FUCKING PIG PUKES

11. WHAT allies?
Do they mean the coalition of the wilting?

Jeebus, the only assholes sending mixed signals are Scrub & Co.

"Re-select me because I'm keeping you safe." OK, we're safe...
"I don't think you can win it." Wait, uh, no we aren't...
"We are winning and we will win." We're somewhere in between?

"Mission accomplished!" Great, the war is over...
"We have more work to do." Ah, shit. What's going on?
"Freedom is on the march!" Oh good. For a minute there, I thought we were going to get bogged down in an endless war.
Washington: "Worst case scenario, civil war." What? I thought everything was hunky dory?
"Those were just guesses." Whatever.

21. You're right
Time to turn Bush's words against him. Didn't he say that we should get on with our lives, go to the mall and shop and "not let the terra-ists win" by changing our behaviors? Well, time to shove that little gem of wisdom down his throat. Time to tell both Bush and Cheney that constantly reminding us that they are the only thing that keeps us from being attacked again means "the terra-ists have won". Keeping us scared with the multicolored rainbow of alerts, daily reminders of 9/11, denial of the reality of daily reports from Iraq, plans for "limited" elections in the country that we "liberated" in May and the scandals of the prisons and court marshalls of our service people ... means the terra-ist have won.

Bush gave us a glimpse in 2000. Rewatching the debate between Bush and Gore tonight reminded all of us - Bush is the one using scare tactics in the voting booth ...

Don't let the terra-ists win ... Elect Kerry instead.

15. The tipping point is nearly here...
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 10:19 PM by Caliphoto
.. the point where reasonable people, (and reasonable people DO sometimes vote republican), will turn against Bush and his fear-mongering ways. The intelligent voters, who are inclined to vote for Bush will hit a limit for the slime.. and the scary innuendos.. it will backfire on Bush. The reasonable, good, people are starting to see the desperation and disgusting character of Bush and Cheney and friends.. and they will reject it. They have stepped over the edge too many times, even the NYT is calling them out for this... expect more media to follow suit in denouncing it. They have miscalculated the public and I'll enjoy watching their evil, smarmy, asses get voted out of office (WHERE THEY DIDN"T FUCKING BELONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!)

Have you tried to argue with a Republican lately?

THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR "REASON". They LOVE the hatred, the lies, the bullying. That's why they like Bush. He's just a lying, thieving, hateful, cowardly, avaricious, heartless, AMORAL BULLY.

18. Ohio, here.
I think I may have seen this ad run tonight -- saw a Kerry ad run (the sound was off, they had the sound up on another TV at a sports bar, the TV was running a Tennessee Vols football game) that I hadn't seen before, and only caught a little bit of it. I could have sworn I saw a Kerry ad I hadn't seen before, and it's not even on the Johnkerry.com website yet.

Ironically -- or perhaps it wasn't ironic, considering La Donald has said he's not partial to either of the candidates -- it ran during the showing of 'The Apprentice' on the local network affiliate, whichever runs La Donald's show.

Didn't get to hear it, unfortunately, so I can't testify to whether it was that ad -- I'd have recognized the closing shot, though, and that was different from the last few dated ads on the Kerry website that are primarily 'new direction in Iraq' ads.

Swing state, hitting hard in the areas that are less firmly Kerry. Sounds like somebody's listening to 'Tighten Up' in the eleventh hour of the campaign! I hate to sound like a wet towel, but it's about damned time.

31. He's right, but complaining about it doesn't help
It just makes him sound like a whiner. Kerry has to stop worrying about this kind of Bushit and just go out and attack rather than complain. Air his own vicious (but truthful) ads and tell the truth when speaking to the people, rather than complain to the media. It's hateful what the Bushrovians are doing, but talking about it just makes him seem weak. IMO.
