Senate intelligence bill varies from Nine-Eleven recommendations


CAPITOL HILL Senate leaders working on a bill to reform the intelligence agencies agree that an overall director should have budgetary power.

But The Associated Press has learned that the leaders disagree with the Nine-Eleven Commission on one point. They believe the Pentagon should remain in charge of some military spy agencies.

A congressional aide familiar with the bill says it would let the Pentagon keep control of the budget for the Defense Intelligence Agency, which collects intelligence for military planning and operations.
