Nader's Top Endorsers From 2000 Urge
"Swing States" Support For Kerry

t r u t h o u t | Press Release

Tuesday 14 September 2004

Washington - As Ralph Nader campaigns in swing state after swing state, a large group of prominent endorsers from Nader 2000 is calling for support for Kerry in those states in order to oust Bush.

Four years ago this month, Nader convened news conferences in several cities to unveil his personally-selected "Nader 2000 Citizens Committee" of leading supporters. Today (Sept. 14), more than 70 members of Nader's 2000 committee joined in issuing a statement that urges "support for Kerry/Edwards in all swing states" because "removing George W. Bush from office should be the top priority in the 2004 presidential election."

Signers of the statement include Noam Chomsky, Ben Cohen, Phil Donahue, Barbara Ehrenreich, Jim Hightower, Bonnie Raitt, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Cornel West and Howard Zinn. The statement and a current list of signers can be viewed at: vote2stopbush.com.

The statement and list will be widely circulated, especially via the Internet, to reach as many progressive or disaffected voters in swing states as possible between now and Election Day. This effort is not coordinated in any way with the Kerry Campaign or the Democratic Party.

The statement reads as follows:

Nader 2000 Leaders United To Defeat Bush

2. I don't care Nader is still a little cockroach as far as I'm concerned
Wanna be a real hero Nader?

1. Stop taking money from GOP interests and anti-gay groups

2. Drop outta the race because you can't win and you know it. Stop trying to undermine the Democrats by calling their legal efforts crooked and mafia like

3. At this point it's probably too late, he should help rally up the people to vote Bush out THEN lead an effort to put President Kerry's feet to the fire in bringing us a real progressive overhaul.

5. that was quite different
they picked the most progressive platform. They wanted a viable third party in this country. They wanted choices. Very few could have forseen the future. These are smart people who want what is best for their country.

forseen the future? When I saw Bush, I knew he would mean nothing but trouble. I guess it's good they are doing it now, but isn't it too little, too late?

8. Who could have foreseen Congressional Democrats, for instance...
...rubberstamping the Patriot Act, passing disastrous tax cuts, or giving Bush free reign to invade Iraq?

Perhaps you saw "nothing but trouble" whereas they saw "nothing but reelection." Still, a spine is a terrible thing to waste. Capiche?

9. I have the greatest respect for these people
all of them have been tirelessly speaking out and giving of their time and energy while others have been silent and capitulating.

I suggest we stop 'blaming' our friends. To clearly see where the blame falls watch "Unprecedented".
In the mean time it is obvious that we are working together with a common goal.

11. Bush's approval rating was abysmal before 9-11
he then used the tragedy to bulldoze the neo-con agenda and threaten the Democrats as "unAmerican" if they didn't go along, but how many forsaw 9-11?

Anyway, there is no sense rejecting the help of good people.

13. It's just so difficult knowing that we could have
had president Gore if it wasn't for Nader.

7. You should look up Tim Robbins' brilliant pro-Nader essay in The Nation
Circa 2000.

Rather than bummin', you could be learnin' from Tim.

10. Does anyone else remember t his incident?
During election 2000, Marlo Thomas was on one of the morning talk shows, I believe it was the Today Show, and she was so angry at her husband, Phil Donohue, for supporting Nader. She said she tried to convince him that it was urgent that Bush not be president and she was so angry at him that she said they were sleeping in separate bedrooms until after the election. I thought she had so much foresight. I wonder if he regrets his vote now?

12. Me! I saw Marlo Thomas on one of those
shows saying how she was for Gore and I was shocked cause I thought she was going to be for nader(nadir) like ol' phil was.

Marlo, I, and a few Million others thought that Gore would be the Best!
