Kerry drops ball with Packers fans - ugh!
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 10:49 PM by Cookiedemocrat
Here is a story several weeks old. It is anti-Kerry so, naturally, they are running it in TOMORROW'S Washington Post! (Sheesh.)

Campaign Journal
Kerry Drops Ball With Packers Fans

By Jim VandeHei
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, September 15, 2004; Page A09

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 14 -- Forget soccer moms and NASCAR dads. The most important demographic in these parts transcends gender and geography -- it's Green Bay Packers fans.

Both candidates are targeting them with the ferocity of a Brett Favre bullet, but only John F. Kerry has fumbled the name of the hallowed grounds on which the Packers play, the frozen tundra of Curly Lambeau Field.

At a campaign event last month, the Democratic presidential nominee called it Lambert Field -- a slip of the tongue carried on television, in papers throughout the state and on ESPN's Web site.

That's akin to call the Yankees the Yankers or the Chicago Bulls the Bells. This is a place where Packers jackets often outnumber sports coats in church and thousands of fans wear a big chunk of yellow foam cheese atop their head with the pride of a new parent. President Bush's warning to terrorists is apropos to the passions of Packers fans -- you are either with 'em or against 'em.

Post Reporters Eat White House Spin On Kerry Convention Stories
In a sign that the media still hasn’t overcome its appetite for White House spin, the Washington Post team of Jim VandeHei and Dan Balz ran a story today on Kerry’s challenge in delaying accepting the nomination to level the playing field against Bush. The Post reporters have apparently adopted the White House-RNC meme that doing this will cost Kerry a lot in the PR battle. How many voters really give a rat’s ass when Kerry accepts the nomination? And why exactly did Mr. VandeHei and Mr. Balz swallow this line of Ed Gillespie crap without asking why Mr. Bush isn’t just as craven by delaying the GOP convention to exploit 9/11 and maximize his primary fundraising?

Worse yet, the Post headlined this RNC garbage while it buried Kerry’s message of the day on his energy policy and attacks against Bush on gas prices and Iraq. Maybe Mr. VandeHei is getting pointers from his wife, who used to work for Tom DeLay. Maybe its because the White House has got the big stick out again, blaming the media for all of the bad news.

If we were not at war,
we had affordable health insurance,
we had good jobs,
we were properly defending America from another terrorist attack...

People could sit around and jerk off to news stories like this one. Like they did in 2000.

But that was then, and this is now.

People are dying in Iraq. damn the WP. damn it straight to hell.

Seriously. They have to pick a single gaffe from two weeks ago in order to smear John Kerry? That's desperate, man.

John Kerry must be running a picture perfect campaign, delivering every line, sticking the message every time.

In other news, what has our President been saying lately?

"I doubt that you can win it" --the War President commenting on the War on Terror.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/02/blooper/

and

"We've got an issue in America. Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

28. This is ridiculous. Wisconsin has some of the hardest to pronounce names
...of any state. We got Native American city names, French city names, German city names, you name it.

People from out of state mispronounce Wisconsin location names all the time. We expect it, and I don't know anyone here who considers it a big slight when an out of stater screws up a pronounciation. Half the time the pronounciation we use is wrong anyway (even seemingly simple ones like 'New Berlin'. We say it with the emphasis on 'Ber', not 'lin' since WWII).

I'm sure Faux and friends and their campaign-affliated stringers at the Post, such as Jim VandeHei (hey, how the HELL do you pronounce 'VendeHei'?) can find a few Bush supporters to interview and seem 'outraged', but I don't really think anyone else here cares about how he says 'Lambeau Field'.

Everyone I know cares more about whether they can afford to pay their doctor.

44. Umm, excuse me, but I'd be willing to bet that better than 60% of this
country knows not only how to pronounce Lambeau Field, but how to spell it, where it is, and why it's important.

They also like to see a guy throw a ball 60 feet, 6 inches without it bouncing twice.

There is no excuse for them not preparing him and making sure that he knew the one thing he needed to know to make friends in Green Bay. If he really wanted to make a strong impression, he also needed to know: 1) Brett Favre is pronounced "farv"; 2) It's Lam-bow, not Lambert, and Cheese, Brats, and Beer are Fan-tastic.

That's it. Nothing major. Just know your audience. It's shit like this that gets plastered all over the news, especially when us Dems light up W like we do when he says something stupid. Only with Kerry, since it happens less often--it's actually news!

57. While the poster could leave the venom at the side...he has a point.
Quick name the two memes constantly repeated by the RW.

A) That Kerry is a flip-flopper

B) That he is out of touch

Now remember the story about Bush Sr. where he couldn't understand the grocery checkout or even more devsatating when he checked his watch during the debates. This worked right ino the hands of the Clinton campaign's "out of touch" meme. Taken individually and when its still early it doesn't mean to much. But these little hit pieces are building around the meme B.

I know its stupid for elections to hinge on these things but that is the reality. You have voters who vote based on who has better hair, is more atractive, what party they belong to, single issues, impact on their life, the "have a beer" test, etc etc.

Hopefully Kerry will not throw in the WS or if he does he will hit the mitt.

39. Campaign Journal: Post Picks up Propganda Ball and Runs with It
By PeaceProgProsp
DU Post Staff Writer

Wednesday, September 15, 2004; Page A09

INTERNET, Sept. 14 -- Forget Freerepublic and The Washington Times. The most important news in these parts transcends truth and accuracy -- it's propganda.

All the media is targeting the truth with the ferocity of a bullet; they want to kill it. But the Post has truly pulled the trigger and put it to death.

After a Kerry campaign event last month, the Democratic presidential nominee said something most people missed -- a slip of the tongue so rare, mild and of limited regional interest, it has taken a massive media effort to keep it alilve and spread it nation-wide.

That's akin to blowing Whitewater WAAYYYY out of proportioin or misrepresenting the Willie Horton furlough. The media is a place where lies often outnumber the truth and thousands of readers and viewers are left scratching their heads wondering why money is so important that reporters and editors are risking their immortal souls to help President Bush win reelection. Oh, and don't forget "terrorism": the media must alwasy insert the word into a story, even if it's about football. Yep, with the media, either you are either with the Republicans overtly or you're with 'em covertly.

53. Just because YOU don't think it matters doesn't mean
that actual people won't. Get this: most people who vote don't visit political chatrooms!!! Most think that Iraq had something to do with 9/11. Most are not like you and me. We know what's up and they don't. We see the gaffe as nothing big, because we are all concerned with healthcare, Iraq, and budget deficits. They are all watching "The Apprentice," "Trading Spouses," and "The Simple Life."

Whether you like it or not, Kerry making a gaffe like this (that could have easily been avoided with only 90 second of prep) is going to get play. Same kinda stuff as "man hit in groin by football" on America's Funniest Videos. You may not like it, but it's reality. If you combined all the audiences for all the political talk shows on all the networks, you still wouldn't come close to the number of people watching any of the above shows I've mentioned.

Incidentally, none of those shows, despite their high ratings, have the name recognition and consistent viewer base that Monday Night Football has.

46. Who gives a rat's ass.
If they are stupid enough to let that affect their vote, too bad for them. I'd rather he didn't know it was Lambeau and stuck to gettin us out of this mess.

Won't mean shit.

48. Any headline yet that the US pres said "War *ON* Independence"...
rather than "War Of Independence", in his speech to the Guard yesterday?

51. big deal
thanks for bringing this to our attention.

In the end, I don't think anyone will care that Kerry misstated the name of some stadium that 99% of the country doesn't know.

All my buddies know my political bent, they have not said word one about it. Even my freeper mom didnt stick it in my face.

The season has started, noone in that stadium gives a rats fuck for this non-issue now UNLESS the GOP keeps playing political games about it, then there will be a backlash....

61. All of this for that???
If quizzed, I'll bet Kerry knows the names of world leaders selected at random. And he's not even President yet!

GOVERNOR BUSH: The new Pakistani General, he's just been elected -- not elected, this guy took over office. It appears this guy is going to bring stability to the country and I think that's good news for the subcontinent.
JOURNALIST: And you can name him?
GOVERNOR BUSH: General... I can name the general.
JOURNALIST: And it's...?
GOVERNOR BUSH: "General."
JOURNALIST: And the Prime Minister of India?
GOVERNOR BUSH: The new Prime Minister of India is... No.
