Situation deteriorates in Iraq (Americans "under siege")
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 09:33 AM by Barrett808
Situation deteriorates in Iraq
Reporter: Peter Cave

TONY JONES: And the ABC's foreign affairs editor Peter Cave joins us now from Baghdad.

Peter, we'll come to the still unresolved question of whether there are or are not any Australian hostages in a moment, but first, we've just seen some extraordinary pictures, another of bloodiest days since the war, is there a sense there that the security situation is simply deteriorating?

PETER CAVE: It certainly is.

We're seeing kidnappings in the centre of Baghdad that we haven't seen the like of before. 30 armed men coming in and pulling those two Italian women and a couple of Iraqis out of their house. We've had a over the weekend on Sunday, we had five car bombs in and around Baghdad, 13 or 14 rockets and mortars rained down on the green zone and one of them landed at a building behind my here as a matter of fact.

...

And just in the last little while there's been another attack in central Baghdad, a roadside bomb which struck a column of three four-wheel drive vehicles, completely destroying one of them.

...

PETER CAVE: Look, you don't speak to American military officers as much as you used to. They're very fast when they move through town. They don't speak to you. The daily press briefings aren't happening. You know, they have coming under daily attack.

...

The Americans are very much under siege.

4. And what is George W. Bush DOING about it?
He's the only one with the authority, and it's totally his responsibility -- but he's too busy out campaigning and glad-handing his wealthy buddies and appearing before hand-picked crowds who've signed loyalty oaths.

What are you doing about, Mr. Bush? Scores of people are dying every day in the mess you made. What are you doing about it?

7. Why doesn't Kerry ask why aWol isn't in the WH doing his job working
day and night to solve the situation in Iraq? To save American soldiers and innocent Iraqis who support America lives?

As I said 100 times before in the DU, and I believe this is a big mistake on Kerry's handlers, Kerry should annouce he'd NEVER GO ON VACATION, NEVER GO TO A FUNDRAISER WHILE AMERICAN SOLDIERS WHERE FIGHTING A WAR. It's not too late for Kerry to announce this. I sure wish someone with connections could get this info to the Kerry campaign!!!

aWol Bush is also in a different position as Commander and Chief for the responsibility of all the soldiers lives. Therefore, Kerry should somehow bring up the points; "How is Bush smiling and joking all day long when our chiildren are being murdered in Iraq and Afghanistan?' "Bush should be not joking around and take his job serious!"

13. AWOL went to the WH today
for the first time in 44 DAYS.

Nice of him to show up for work finally.

If I had an employee who pulled half the shit W pulls, he would have been fired after the first month.

24. I really think Kerry campaing is making an error. I mean able to
capitalize significantly from Kerry saying: "If I were President, at this serious time of terrorism and war, I would NOT be slithering around the country with my hand out asking for donations. I would not be so selfish. As Commander and Chief I would be in the WH all day and all night working on plans to secure America and rebuild our economy. No military general would leave the battlefield in the middle of an attack. A President should not be thinking of handouts in a time of crisis."

Kerry should make Bush look like he is selfish and NOT conducting proper procedures in our threatened America.

put up the US Marine Corps flag on his house. This is his second time back from Iraq. As I told you before he came home about 6 months ago when I told about all the "Welcome Home US Marine" signs his family put all over the house. What different this time is the house is pasted with "Kerry" signs.

http://darkerxdarker.tripod.com/ pic of US Marine flying flag and has Kerry signs in his windows.

14. I think Washington Journal should do three hours on the current
situation in Iraq and devote two of the three hours to call from family of the soldiers.

I feel physically sick.

How many more innocent people are there that we have to kill?

15. Last night's Nightline was the
first time I've seen the horrific mess that is Iraq revealed and discussed on a corporate whore network. It's so shitful they can't ignore it or pretend its going well any more. Now they need to start holding the chimp's feet to the fire and demanding to know what he's going to do about it. Not holding my breath, though.

Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 05:47 PM by NeoConsSuck
get your goddamn american asses out of Iraq. And as an american taxpayer, I will be using everything in my bag of tricks to pay as little as possible to the corporate war machine from my self employment taxes.

If the repukes want this war, I'll gladly let them pay for it.

-Edited for spelling.
