Bush Ad Mocks Kerry Shift on Positions
John Kerry (news - web sites) windsurfs left and right in a new television ad from President Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign that says the Democrat's positions on Iraq (news - web sites), education and health care shift "whichever way the wind blows."

"In which direction would John Kerry lead?" asks the ad, which is set to Johann Strauss' "Blue Danube Waltz."

Idea for Kerry ad:

"George W. Bush: Cannot ride a bike, stay on a Segway, or eat a pretzel without injuring himself. Does that sound like someone you want holding the nuke-you-ler football?"

2. the Bush campaign is too jokey
and so is Bush himself. I saw his campaign event from Monday and it was way too lighthearted for the times we're in.

At the debates, Kerry should repeatedly tell Bush to get serious, when Bush says something silly.

3. Well, Kerry DID fall off his bike FIRST..... but I think it's cool that
they want to show him windsurfing! He's so hip.

Imagine dumbya trying to do it. They'd be dragging the seas for his body before you knew it.

I really wish Kerry would knock off the expensive sports until after the election.

Windsurfing is not an expensive sport.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2920&item=5125692550&rd=1
There's a used board listed for $5.00 on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2920&item=7102593470&rd=1
There's a complete set, board, mast, boom, 2 sails for $175.00

Once you've got the equipment, there are no more costs for windsurfing.

How much to take a family to a NASCAR race, or an NFL football game?

"Most people" can afford windsurfing, if they were interested in trying the sport.

16. So, Kerry should only do stuff that "most people" can afford?...
There will always be someone who can't afford whatever it is he does. Some people can't afford to eat. I guess Kerry should go hungry too, he might offend people by affording food.

It's kind of like skiing. It's not the lift ticket, it's the trip to the resort. If you think it's OK for Kerry to perpetuate an elitist image, I'm not going to bother to argue. Obviously, JK can do no wrong.

33. Windsurfing? Elitist? WTF?
Since when has windsurfing not been totally white trash? Since when is heading out the lake with the water skiers, speedboats, jetskis and fishermen not a totally middle class, middle american pasttime? Has water skiing suddenly been accepted into the genteel realm of cricket, polo and country clubs?

This is one of the silliest right-wing talking points this election. I've seen it several times around the web: "Gee how nice that he can go water skiing. I'd love to if I had a job." The republican party is so out of touch that they expect middle america to believe that waterskiing is some exotic pasttime and at the same time they're putting focus on the shitty economy they created! What a riot :)

7. why don't we cut an ad showing Bush saying that the CIA
report was just "guesses" and when he said the war on terrorism is "unwinnable" and as the coup--the clip of him saying finding Bin Laden is "not a priority."

They use all this stuff against us, we have lots we could use against Bush.

8. "Progress [sic] for America" windsurfing ad played here in KY
It has inconceivably cheeeep graffics and a too-cool voice-over from a "surfer chick."

Does windsurfing really strike middle America as elitist?

18. The ads/spin are obviously successful...
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 02:02 PM by krkaufman
... as evidenced by the headline, which includes the misleading "Kerry Shift on Positions."

The headline itself is an ad for Bush.

edit: More evidence of lazy/slanted reporting is this excerpt from the article...

In fall 2003, while facing a challenge from Democratic primary opponent and anti-war candidate Howard Dean, Kerry voted against $87 billion in reconstruction money for Iraq and Afghanistan.

The article claims that Kerry voted against the $87 billion due to positioning vs Dean -- rather than because he felt the $20 billion in actual reconstruction money should have been paid for NOW (via rollback of some of the tax cuts for the rich), rather than foisting all costs off on future generations.

And thus the R-W propaganda machine rolls on.

25. My response ad:
A quick cut of the offending Kerry ad.. with the music. Then the record scratches to a stop. The voice over says something about the ad being amusing.. but then says our nation's health care crisis and education for our children is NOT a laughting matter. Then a few graphics with voice over, clarifying what Kerry REALLY DID say and do. Then.. voice over: OUR FUTURE, NOT A LAUGHING MATTER.
