Under Fire, Bush Vows 'No Retreat' from Iraq
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 06:00 PM by FlashHarry
Wow. The rhetoric's getting even scarier. Somebody ought to tell Georgie boy, 'never say never.

Reuters/Yahoo story here.

<snip>
ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) on Tuesday vowed "there will be no retreat" from Iraq (news - web sites) as he sought to defend the U.S. occupation amid mounting criticism and a post-war U.S. death toll that now surpasses invasion losses.

"Retreat in the face of terror would only invite further and bolder attacks," Bush said at the annual convention of the American Legion military veterans group. "There will be no retreat. We are on the offensive against the Saddam loyalists, the foreign fighters, and the criminal gangs that are attacking Iraqis and coalition forces."

He spoke as the killings of two U.S. soldiers in Iraq on Tuesday pushed the death toll to 140 for the period since May 1, when Bush declared major fighting over. That is greater than the U.S. toll of 138 dead between the March 20 start of the war and May 1. The figures reflect deaths from combat and non-hostile causes.

4. Bush is a known bluffer
right before the war he said in front of the world that he was going to go back to the UN -- "cards on the table", but it never happened.

2. What do you mean "we" Lil George?
You're down on the ranch, golfin' and clearin' brush, aincha? It's only those poor slobs in the military that are "on the offensive."

Oops there goes another 35 days!

3. Protestors in St Louis sued for the
right to protest directly in front of the publicly funded convention center where the imposter to the presidency spoke.

I hate it when the corporate media feels they must show a pro Bush person when they do a report on an anti Bush rally. They interviewed a couple of protestors but then went to a woman who said how it was because of the Legionnaires that the protestors even had the right to protest. She also said she was tired of people bashing Bush.

Oh get used to it woman! His time has come. We endured EIGHT years of constant berating of Clinton and Bush does not hold a candle to Clinton! So Clinton enjoyed a BJ or two, at least he didn't start a war just to enrich his already too rich friends.

5. Legionnaires
It is not necessary to have been in a war or war zone to belong to the American Legion.

Only the Veterans Of Foreign Wars are required to have actually been in the battle zone.

This is not to meant to demean the AL, for he who waits also serves.

6. Did anyone tell him to retreat?
Besides we obviously U.S. hating Liberals that is. The seeds of doubt are growing in his mind. I think he's getting very defensive. It might be panic time for old Bushie here. I think he knows he screwed up and is getting a little scared of the consequences. Maybe the grownups (Democrats) will bail his ass out, but he's going to have to get the hell out of the way.

9. You can never retreat!
If you start out with all the troops in front of you.

You didn't see former governor Bush retreat during the Viet Nam war neither, did you? (Well, if you don't count deserting.)

11. "Under Fire"?
What the HELL would pResident Sockpuppet know about being under fire? As I recall, he spent his time (what he served of it) keeping the skies of Texas safe from the Mexican Air Force.

12. What the heck does he mean by 'total victory'
"And so it is today. Our course is set. Our purpose is firm. No act of terrorists will weaken our resolve or alter their fate. Our only goal, our only option, is total victory in the war on terror. And this nation will press on to victory."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/08/20030826-5.html

This statement was just discussed on the News Hour. Another one of those little zingers W likes to throw in just to let us know where he's really coming from. Seems to me that his idea of total victory is total destruction.

15. Total Victory means all the money and power goes to the Bush family
Bush doesn't care about America, he cares about his power and his money. Would we be fighting this "war" if Bush and his family and friends weren't taking billions of dollars in taxpayer money? No.

"Retreat in the face of terror would only invite further and bolder attacks," Bush said at the annual convention of the American Legion military veterans group.

To: Mr. George W. Bush
From: The Realm of Logic

This reasoning would almost approach sense, except ... we were never attacked by Iraq in the first place!

We're not "in the face of terror" in Bagdhad, you f***ing failure of evolution -- we are the terror! YOU ATTACKED THEM!

:grr: :grr:

God, I wish someone with a public voice would call bullhockey on this. We -- by which I mean every single American who claims to not want Bush in power -- can not afford to let this numnut get away with consistently presenting the Iraq war as a response to an attack rather than what it is: an unprovoked war of aggression.

And of course, his reasoning here is far more encouragement to Iraqis than to Americans -- because they are in the face of terror.
