"A car bomb exploded outside a restaurant in a busy commercial area of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least 11 people and wounding 40, police and hospital officials said.

The blast destroyed several stores and sent thick black smoke spiraling into the sky. Shards of glass and debris littered the street in western Baghdad.

U.S. soldiers riding armored vehicles cordoned off the area and firefighters doused water on burning cars. At least 10 cars were destroyed, one of them flipped upside down."

"At nearby Yarmuk hospital, morgue officials showed Reuters correspondent Mariam Karouny 11 corpses brought from the blast site.
There has been a wave of suicide car bomb attacks in the capital over the past two weeks."
