Cocaine-use charges send Bush book soaring up bestseller lists
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1504&ncid=1504&e=10&u=/afp/20040914/ts_afp/us_vote_bush_book_040914175814

NEW YORK (AFP) - Allegations that US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) snorted cocaine at Camp David while his father was in office have fuelled sales of a new, gossip-filled book about the Bush family by controversial celebrity biographer Kitty Kelley.

"The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty" hit bookshelves across the United States on Tuesday, with advance orders already placing it at the top of the Amazon.com bestseller list.

The 733-page tome is heavy with the author's trademark mix of scandal and sexual innuendo, and paints a deeply unflattering portrait of the Bush dynasty that has been condemned by the White House as a politically motivated smear job ahead of November's presidential election.

The book asserts that Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, went on "alcoholic binges," explores an alleged affair between former president George H.W. Bush and a longtime aide, and cites sources that describe First Lady Laura Bush as a "go-to girl for dime bags of marijuana" during her college days in the 1960s.

Most advance publicity, however, has focused on the allegation that Bush used cocaine with one of his brothers at Camp David when their father was president.

4. Bought mine this morning.
They are flying off the shelves at Barnes & Noble. The first chapter is chilling because it describes how difficult it was to get information because the BFEE is so secretive and vindictive. I hope Kitty has bodyguards and that she's carefully safeguarded all the material that didn't make it into the book. The really important thing about this book isn't the gossipy stuff -- whether Poppy had a mistress or Shrub was a drunk and a cokehead. It's that she shows how the Bushes are nothing more than a preppy version of the Gambinos; they are just as ruthless and dangerous. The book isn't tittilating; it's scary.

I think these are the sort of things that will unsettle the hearts of the more conservative folks. Cocaine is big nuts. They'll still vote for him, though.

His questions were probing, but the publicity is unprecedented. Three days of interviews. I'll bet that humped up book sales significantly.

MATT LAUER'S COCAINE DEALER TELLS ALL!

HIS SECRET DRUG PAST EXPOSED

A drug dealer's account of Matt Lauer's secret drug past has been exposed by The ENQUIRER.

In a blockbuster interview, a former close friend of the respected Today show star says he was Lauers dealer and that the newsman bought cocaine from me five to six times. The dealer -- who passed a polygraph exam required by The ENQUIRER -- says he also gave the dangerous drug to Lauer and snorted it with him.

In the world-exclusive story, you'll learn the dealer's own eyewitness account of Lauer's descent into the seedy world of cocaine, how his TV boss confronted him over his drug use, how he finally got his life back on track, and much, much more.

Don't miss it!

Now squirm, ShrubCo. ... SQUIRM!!! So, does anyone know which Bush brat was rumored to be Dubya's coke buddy at Camp David? And is the Victor Ashe stuff in there as well? Is there any evidence Dubya ever dropped acid? And if so, why was his consciousness not expanded?

I stopped at a Borders today during lunch (Woodland Hills, CA--a suburb of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley). Kitty's book was front-and-center in a big display, the first thing you saw as you came in the door. All the books on the display were almost gone.

14. Marvin
"Now, the most attention so far has been focused on this charge by Sharon Bush, who is a former sister-in-law of the president. She's quoted in the book as saying that Marvin Bush, another one of the Bush brothers, and George W. Bush, 'did coke' -- cocaine -- at Camp David when their father was president. And not just once, either. This was a family of alcoholism, drug addiction, and even schizophrenia."

13. The REAL beauty here is .....
Hundreds of THOUSANDS of folks will read Kitty Kelly - despite her reputation, because it's a fun easy read. Only a fraction of those will initially read a Kevin Philips or other authors on the Bush family. BUT, because of Kitty's book ... many will then move on to 'chain read' to some of the other Bush 'truth-out' books and many will really come to see the light. The JIGS UP !!!!

Don't you LOVE it ? :bounce:

The family has no shame. W has no shame. He becomes the lovable rascal whose rigidy and narcissism are seen as redemption and resolve. (It could happen.) For the Smirk to slime at the Guard meeting yesterday and get away with it and for any single person to applause....it makes you shake your head.

17. The Bush family is the real ghetto
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 09:56 PM by goclark

It makes me upset that these rich thugs are starving the poor people in America.

They have everything that life could ever offer and they go around like bullies.

I wish they would have to go and live in the ghetto for about 6 months so some of the brothers and sisters could teach them how to live. They wouldn't last 5 minutes.

I'd love to see their "Little Behinds Left Behind."

It can't be - if it were I think we would be hearing more about it. Surely sex that starts in a coffin at Yale trumps snorting at Coke David. And the abortion?

22. 41 nearly had his ass shot off while vp
It seems that while Bush 41 was engaged in a dalliance with a woman of notable reputation in her fashionable Georgetown home, her husband came in and found her and 41 in a compromizing sutra. Said husband pulled his piece and as 41 was leaping out the second floor window, squeezed off a shot that nailed 41 in one of his buttocks. Dining nearby, in a fancy DC eatery, were Al Haig, Dick Cheney, and a couple other Republican fixers. Momentarily, a Secret Service agent assigned to 41's detail came bounding over to their table and explained what happened and breathlessly asked what should he do?

I don't know, specifically, what happened after that- spose it's anybody's guess. Same old, same old, probably.

devoted to "Bash Bush" books. I haven't been in my bookstore lately, but I've read that there are now SO many anti-Bush books that have come out, that they've devoted whole sections in the book stores.

Imagine that.....Barnes & Noble has a hanging sign that directs you to the Headings: "Cooking", "Baby Care" "Gardening" ,and "Bush".

39. Audio version
I downloaded the unabridged version of the book at Audible.com. I'm four hours into the 28 hour narration. Up to the section on GHWB going into the armed forces.

Either Lauer had not read any of the book or was just lying when he suggested that she was completely negative in the book. I've been surprised that the book is not nearly as negative as I expected (though I understand that the theme is that the family deteriorates as time goes along).

One example - she goes out of her way to dismiss the story that has been circulating on the web that Prescott Bush's company supported the Nazis after the US barred economic relations with Germany. That would have been a good comeback to Lauer.

Can't wait to get to the juicy parts.
