Ballots are certified without Nader

Elections supervisors wring hands over potential mess

By Bill Cotterell

DEMOCRAT POLITICAL EDITOR

Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood sent anxious elections supervisors an official presidential ballot without Ralph Nader's name on it Thursday while 10 lawyers wrangled over legal wording of a court order intended to keep him out of the race in a key battleground state.

Attorneys for Nader, the Reform Party or even the state could appeal Circuit Judge Kevin Davey's decision today.

Democrats, meanwhile, are fighting in several states to block Nader's insurgent candidacy - which is likely to siphon more votes away from John Kerry than anyone else on the ballot.

In a prolonged informal hearing late Thursday, both sides indicated they could take a few days to line up witnesses and hold a hearing next Wednesday - Hurricane Ivan permitting - on the preliminary injunction Davey issued late Wednesday, barring Nader from the ballot.

2. He's still wasting the time and resources of folks who *would* be working
to defeat Republicans throughout the country. I do not trust Nader's supposed motives. I think he has an agenda that he has not been open about. And I dont think its a very popular one.
