Heinz Kerry: Opponents of health care plan are 'idiots'

LANCASTER, Pa. - Teresa Heinz Kerry said Wednesday that "only an idiot" would fail to support her husband's health care plan.

"Of course, there are idiots," Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, told the (Lancaster) Intelligencer Journal for Thursday's editions.

Kerry's proposal includes health care subsidies for children, the unemployed, small companies and more; and government assistance to insurers and employers that keep premiums for workers down.

"I don't have to sell it - the people want it," Heinz Kerry said of the health plan. "The common man doesn't look at me as some rich witch. I talk about what I see. It has always been so. You judge people not by their pocketbook but by their actions. Walk the walk."

What an awesome woman - I absolutely adore her - she's John Kerry's best asset, imo. A woman not afraid of speaking the truth, of speaking her mind, completely unafraid of the ratass biased media who have tried to ridicule her over and over - but they cannot, for you cannot ridicule someone who doesn't care about the opinion of the ridiculer.

23. We stood in the rain outside the Lancaster health-care panel event

... to show Teresa our support! A whole bunch of dedicated Dems, dripping with raindrops and Kerry gear. We were soaked, but I was glad we were there ... there were a bunch of frat-boy Bushies hanging around ... including one dressed up in a huge fuzzy dolphin suit (he was supposed to be Flipper (the flip-flopper, I guess) -- and he looked really stupid out there in the rain ... he looked like an IDIOT, as Teresa might have said had she seen him!)

Oh, and one of them was holding a sign saying, "You want some ketchup with those LIES?" Why don't you ask Bush, the master liar of the universe!!!

We need help on health care. Sadly, the only option currently is to try to build on the "employer based" system. Reform on this road will cost more and be less efficient. At some point you have to deal with irresponsible Wal-Mart and the other employers who want to evade their social duty. Do the subsidies give them a free ride--or will they be forced to do their duty? We will have to wait and see.

Single payer would be so much easier. Too bad the public isn't yet ready to see the light.

Kerry is doing the best he can to address the issue in a way the country can hopefully embrace. Theresa hit the obvious and I just admire her immensely for it.
