A change of heart for Gov?: McGreevey hasn’t filed resignation letter
TRENTON -- Gov. Jim McGreevey may be rethinking his August resignation announcement.

It has been four weeks since McGreevey made the stunning announcement that he was gay, carried on an extramarital affair with a former male employee and would step down on Nov. 15. But the disgraced governor has failed to file a formal letter of resignation and may be rethinking his resignation.

The Attorney General’s Office hinted at the possibility yesterday in federal district court as it defended McGreevey’s decision to draw out the resignation past the constitutionally mandated period that would require a special election.

No vacancy exists in the governor’s office because McGreevey has not submitted a formal written letter of resignation, argued assistant Attorney General Stefanie Brand in federal district court yesterday.

1. He should not resign over his affair

or that he is gay or that he kept it secret.

He should resign over giving his lover a state funded job.

2. Good!
These Gay-Witch Hunts have got to stop, damn it!

My "Straight But Not Narrow" bumper sticker always gets reactions: many positive; a few confused looks.

3. good for McGreevey -- I hope he doesn't
If we fall on our swords every time we get a parking ticket we are contributing to changing the political landscape.

I don't at all approve of extramarital affairs or the things he's done in his personal life, but I also strongly believe that they have absolutely nothing to do with his political life, and I refuse to let "the other side" set the debate.

So, HANG IN THERE McGreevey -

Plus it's going to be very entertaining watching the pukes try to throw another oscar winning hissy fit. It's time to stand them down.

7. Nothing to do with his political life?
So the fact that he tried to give a state job to his lover is irrelvent? And that this was a job regarding homeland security which the lover was unqualified for?

9. Director of CIA
Bush should just give them the Director of CIA position. Oh, nevermind, he's gay.

10. until it is in court and proven that he did something beyond
the limits of governor's discretion I am not going to bash him. We have enough trouble closing ranks ourselves - we don't need to help the republicans.

I really don't care one way or another. If he says Cipel was not his lover, then repeating rumors is harmful. I don't necessarily like the appearance of impropriety, but goddammit prove that there ACTUALLy was impropriety first.

4. i wonder if he can pull it off. simply remaining in office. that would
drive the repukes into a complete frenzy. after all, his "lover" is out of the country, disgraced, and exposed as an extortionist. maybe the people want him to stay?

5. Don't think so...
This is just a defense argument to the Repub's lawsuit which is trying to have a declaration made that because McGreevey said that he is going to resign, that the office is for all intents vacant and a special election should be held.

McGreevey might've been able to ride it out had he not stated his intention to resign. It's way too late to say he didn't mean it. He'd be branded the ultimate flip-flop.

I don't think he should've said he was going to resign but what's done is done.

8. Good for him
I say go ahead and flip flop. Clearly he made a mistake, he should not have resigned.
(He WAS unwise, shall we say, in his choice of lovers but if he can still govern, let him. And let the repugs stew).

6. McGreevy should go
not because he is gay

but because he is corrupt.

He is using his sexual preference as a pretext, to protect himself from all the dirty business in his administration.
