Poll: Bush cuts Kerry lead to 4 percentage points (in New Jersey)
Excerpt:

NEWARK, N.J. -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has lost his double-digit lead over President George W. Bush in New Jersey and is nearly tied with the GOP incumbent, according to a new poll.

Bush, coming off his party's national convention, slashed Kerry's lead among Garden State voters to 4 percentage points, according to a Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll released Thursday.

Kerry enjoyed a 20-point lead over Bush after the Democratic National Convention in July.

OK, I'm trying to remain positive, but Al Gore won New Jersey by 16 points in 2000.

What in the hell is going on with this campaign?

1. Something tells me that that use of cell phones, callerID, etc....
has probably got the polls a lot more skewed than people think.

7. I hope- but that makes the previous 20pt lead suspect, as well.

2. Bush is still below forty percent. If one supposes that 60 %
of the Nader people and 75% or so of the undecideds will break for Kerry, he's up 55-39--16 points.

Don't sweat.

10. Hate to say it but I'll take that bet, NewYorkerfromMass
I live next to the Garden State. I used to have a business there and my kids go to school there. I will spare everyone my obviously out-of-state opinions about what I think of New Jersey, at least the parts of Northern NJ with which I'm familiar. It's a very diverse and complicated state. But if New Jersey went for Bush, I wouldn't be surprised one bit. Most of the kids in my sons' school are gungho Team Bush. When it comes to taxes, minorities, and red-white-and-blue flag-waving, there is little doubt where it will go.

13. I agree
There were polls previously that showed NJ this close and that was when Kerry was doing well. I think in this case this is the effect of the RNC.

4. Could be a combination of factors
A bounce from the hate-fest in New York last week, a bounce from the blatant scaremongering that * engaged in after the Democratic National Convention about an imminent attack on New Jersey and *'s attempts to portray himself as a moderate

5. Maybe the McGreevy soap opera has an effect.
Also, New Jersey was hit deeply by 9/11; many people do not understand that.

The article says the Republicans pounded the fact that Bush would be tougher on terrorism & Kerry did not answer the charges.

In the end, however, I believe Kerry will win N.J.

6. Don't think so....
McGreevey is a non-issue here.

I find it very hard to believe that Bush has any chance of a win in NJ but then I can't believe that Bush has any chance to be reelected.

When you look at the economy, the deficit, the war, the environment, CEO corruption, and Bush's personal fraud now perhaps finally being revealed, how could there be anything but a Kerry landslide?

I (mostly) have faith that Americans will see past the Bushit and will elect Kerry come Election Day.

Of course, I'm having an optimistic day. I might feel differently tomorrow.

12. Thhking that too but not too long ago
I only had 104 posts - however, that being said, I don't post negative info even now...CNN and MSGOP are busy enough doing that for me.

If things are that tight that we are nervous about NJ, PA, and CA, then we are doomed anyway, so let's just assume that these are ridiculous stats.

My mother, an 86 y.o. sharp gal, was push-polled unsuccessfully by CNN poll the other day. They kept asking questions like, "If there were another terrorist attack would you be more or less likely to vote for President Bush?"

Her reply was, I can't be any less likely to vote for him since there is Zero chance right now that I would do so. The lady taking the poll actually became hostile to her. My mother asked her if she were working for CNN or Bush, but then commented that it really didn't matter since they were one and the same, it seemed to her.

The gal didn't take that too well either...

15. I find it hard to believe, and I live in northern NJ
But I admit to knowing quite a few people who are pro-Bush. If it's this close, I think the influence of Sean Hannity and the other shills might partially be to blame; there seems to be no end to huge billboards promoting that guy's unctious face.
