Nader has spot on ballot in Maine

Maine's top elections official ruled Wednesday that Ralph Nader, the independent candidate for president, submitted valid signatures to the state last month and deserves to have his name on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The decision put Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky, a Democratic former speaker of the state House of Representatives, in a position of ruling against two members of his own party. The pair, including the chairwoman of the state party, had challenged Nader's petitions.

If the Democrats wish to appeal Gwadosky's decision, they must file a lawsuit in Superior Court by Monday.
