ORONO — Democratic vice-presidential candidate John Edwards used his first campaign visit to Maine on Wednesday to criticize President Bush's record while calling for changes both at home and abroad.
Edwards, the running mate of presidential nominee John Kerry, told an audience at the University of Maine that the situation in Iraq has created domestic problems. He accused Bush of spending billions on health care and education in Iraq while neglecting the same issues at home.
"So many things that are important in the lives of the American people are not taking place, but (the United States is spending) $200 billion and counting in Iraq. These things are completely connected," the North Carolina senator said.
http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/news/state/040909edwards.shtmlThis article annoys me! The spending in Iraq wa a small part of the speech. He mostly spoke about domestic issues: how many people have lost jobs, how many people have lost health insurance! He spoke about how the President said we need to get Iraqis back to work and added "Here, too". Same thing with Iraqis needing health coverage: "Here, too, Mr President."
And so much emphasis on the GOP response! How often do we see artticles about Bush or Cheney's visits somewhere with little or no mention of the Democratic "protestors" presence. This article is slanted!
Edwards was superb! Someone walked through the crowd holding a pair of flip flops everhead. People tried to cover them with Kerry/Edwards signs, basically to do avail. Edwards saw this and commented, "I see another Surfer for Kerry in the crowd." He gave a fantastic address to cheering reponse. The crowd was awesome!
