Terror Act "Foiled " in Russia

A major terror act might have been foiled in the Russian city Sank(t) Petersburg, Russian media reports.

Explosives and weapons were disclosed hidden in a cinema in the city. The cinema in which the weapons were found is currently under construction.

Some explosives, 23 bullets of different calibre and had-made (hand-made, home-made?; allemand) explosive devices were among the weapons found Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, three young men from Kazakhstan were arrested by the Russian police over illegal arms possession. Police sources claim that the three might have been involved in another terror plot.

8. BBC: Explosives find in Russian cinema

Police in the Russian city of St Petersburg have found explosives, detonators and a gun in a cinema closed for repairs, Russian media have said.

The discovery of explosives was made at 2000 local time (1600 GMT) on Wednesday in offices in the Progress cinema, gazeta.ru website reported.

Police found 23 cartridges, 900g of plastic explosives, a 200g stick of dynamite, two home-made bombs and a rifle.

However, Reuters news agency quoted a security source in St Petersburg as saying the explosives there were probably intended for small-time criminal activities.
