Revealed: Blair role in naming Kelly (The Guardian\Observer) 8\24\03
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 02:50 PM by WillyT
<snip>

Tony Blair gave the go-ahead to the strategy that led to Dr David Kelly being named, believing it was 'inevitable' that the weapons expert would eventually be unmasked.

A confidential Cabinet Office note of a series of meetings held in Number 10 reveals that the Prime Minister supported 'making public that a source had come forward', but left the specifics of the two-stage 'naming strategy' to the Ministry of Defence.

Further evidence released last night also revealed that John Scarlett, chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, said that there was 'general agreement' within Number 10 that Kelly's name would be revealed.

'Agreement that the issue would inevitably become public,' he wrote in memo following a key meeting in Downing Street with the Prime Minister two days before Kelly was finally named.

1. Goodbye Blair...
and let it be known that it was your doing that led a man to his death.

3. and let it be known that it was your doing that led a man to his death.
The $US64,000 Question is:

Did he kill himself or was he snuffed and made to look like he punched his own tickee?

Anyone who does not think that secret intelligence agencies do not have "knuckledraggers" that can do this sort of thing rather efficiently...well, I have the map you will need to fly to the moon by flapping your arms.

4. No wonder Blair was
reportedly "ashen-faced" on that plane ride in the hours the poor man was missing.

6. I Was Thinking The Same Thing E, The Very Same Thing !!!
He probably thought it would just amount to a 'warning', sort of like the thing with Ambassador Wilson's wife. Then he learned of Kelly's death, and Blair looked TOTALLY STRICKEN!!!

I'd pay way more than a penny for his thoughts at that particular moment.

Is that the way a guy looks when his henchmen go 'over the top'???

:grr:

8. Different Powell, if I'm not mistaken
There's a slimy British Powell, too, (possibly in MOD?) who has been mentioned before in the context of the Kelly death.

9. Oh! My bad then ...
I thought it was rather odd they slid his name in there, but thought it was prefacing his upcoming fall guy episode!

PM deeply involved in outing of Kelly

Documents reveal Blair role in strategy

Ewen MacAskill
Monday August 25, 2003
The Guardian

Tony Blair was heavily involved in the strategy that resulted in the outing of David Kelly, the weapons inspector who subsequently committed suicide.
The extent of Mr Blair's participation is revealed in hundreds of normally secret documents made public by the Lord Hutton inquiry at the weekend. A three-page document is headed: "Meetings in the prime minister's study."

Mr Blair will be pressed when he appears before the inquiry on Thursday to provide further details of these meetings and the part he played devising the strategy that led to Dr Kelly's name being leaked to the press.
