Eliminate finance for terrorism, Russia tells Pakistan
Oh...our most important "ally" in the War on Terra is financing Terra in Russia?

http://in.news.yahoo.com/040907/43/2fxsl.html

Moscow, Sep 7 (IANS) Following the Beslan terrorist attack that killed over 350 people, Russia has asked Pakistan to purge sources of financing for international terrorism based on the latter's territory, official sources said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephonic conversation Tuesday with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, is believed to have asked Islamabad to tackle sources in that country which were financing global terrorism, said an informed source close to the Kremlin.

Russia is apparently linking Pakistan to an international terrorist network that Putin believes was behind the attack on a school in Beslan in North Ossetia that left over 350 people, including some 160 children, dead and around 400 injured...

2. You know, I hadn't considered this angle
I've been well aware of Pakistan's support for a number of extremist militant groups for some time. I've also been aware of the Bush administration's purposeful blind eye to it.

However, I hadn't considered the effect that another Chechnyan attack in Russia might have on how Putin might deal with Pakistan. Of *course* he would know the role played by Pakistan in all this. Hmm...

Wonder what Putin would be willing (and able) to do about this? There's no way I see Russia even contemplating going anywhere near Pakistan (and Kandahar by extension) militarily.

Closer ties between India and Russia, maybe? Russia and China have been getting along rather well lately, as have Russia and Iran. If Russia and India snuggled back up, Pakistan would find itself sort of surrounded by Russian allies.

Hmm...

3. Check Mate.....

The United States, and the Democratic party specifically, should be supporting the nationalist movements of Pakistan to pull it apart. Note: these movements seek non-theocratic based democratic governments.

The most important of these movements is the Afghan nationalists of Balochistan and NWFP who would like to join with Afghanistan, thus returning Afghanistan to its pre-British borders.

If the US supports these true national movements, we will win over one of the key Islamic populations over to the US/West for generations and centuries to come.

Our move....

4. The links between Pakistan...
...and terrorism in Chechnya have been always there. A significant event (and remember two Russian planes downed before this), might be the last straw before Russia takes a drastic step.

Russia and India have always been close friends. During Cold war, India was very close to USSR, while Pakistan was a US ally. Recently, India started moving towards USA due to improving trade and economic ties, however, Indian army and airforce still buy most of their defense equipment from Russia.
