Elections held for group that says Texas is still independent
The Longview News Journal

JACKSONVILLE — Sovereign citizens of the Republic of Texas cast their votes Monday to fill vacancies in Texas' 10th Congress, created when the United States annexed the republic in 1845.

The elections, held in cities throughout the state, move Texas a step toward independence, say citizens who have each sworn to defend the republic from other nations, including the United States.

At least one citizen, Jerry King of Dallas, would not rule out the possibility of violence if the U.S. government tries to quash the republic's efforts. ..

Many of the members believe the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Oklahoma City bombing and the first World Trade center car bombing were plotted by the federal government, said Toni Sudderth, an election official from Tyler. ..

Homeland Security initiatives were put in place to take away our final civil rights and both presidents Bush were brainwashed, Sudderth said.

"I don't care if I go to jail. I don't care," she said.

1. Maybe we can give Texas independence if they promise to take all the
Republicans, fundies, and neo-cons? I'm just saying it's something to think about.......

2. In the breakaway province of Texas today...
Having read another post in LBN, I became curious, so I just looked it up. Russia annexed Chechnya in 1858, only thirteen years after the US annexed Texas.

BTW, the US didn't annex Hawaii until 1898. I hear there's still a lot of people sore about the way it was done, too. Just saying.

5. I'm a die hard secessionist!
I love europe and it's diversity. North America could be so incredible if each region were a culture of it's own. I'll put a lid on it before this turns into a sermon on the mouse.

8. Saw Thatcher's family moved to Texas & KNEW this was coming up
in a news cycle soon. DeLay is in trouble. Thatcher is in trouble. Kenny Boy Lay is in trouble. bush*/cheney are in trouble...

Look for Texas wing nuts to try and get a non-extradition thing going for their Republic and become a haven for the miscreants of the world (for a nominal fee paid to...)

Are you good people of Texas gonna put up with that? Let's hope the Killer Ds increase in number, live long & prosper.

9. Secession has a long and, occasionally, honored tradition
For instance, there is the Free State of Winston:

Winston County is located in northwest Alabama at the very southeastern end of the Appalachian Mountains. The county is bounded on the north by Franklin and Lawrence counties, and on the south by Walker, on the east by Cullman, and on the west by Marion. Winston had only 14 slave holders with 122 slaves in 1860. Less than 5 percent were slave owners. During the Civil War, Winston County tried to secede from the state of Alabama, hoping to remain neutral. These loyalists, descendents of Andrew Jackson's troops who settled in the northern hills of Alabama, strove to preserve their independence and their Union after Alabama seceded in 1861. With a Confederate draft imminent and Federal troops threatening an invasion of north Alabama, on July 4, 1861 the leaders of Winston County called a meeting at Looney’s Tavern, near present-day Addison. More than 2,500 people from Winston and surrounding counties attended and announced their neutrality. A remark about “The Free State of Winston” spread quickly around the state. As a wanted man, Bill Looney's escapes from Confederate forces created legends about Alabama's "Ol' Bill," the "Ol' Black Fox." In April 1862 the Confederacy passed the Conscript Act. Confederate raiders from the adjoining counties came into Winston County nearly every week to arrest men under the Conscript Act to fight for the Confederacy. The hill people of northwest Alabama gained a reputation as traitors, and Winston County became a sanctuary for those whose enthusiasm for the war effort had waned. Many men from the county served in the Union army and many for the Confederacy.

10. Same morons that holed up in Big Bend
Broke into houses and took hostages, shot the home owner. Hid back in a canyon in a shack made of what ever junk they could steal. We arrested 4 of these idiots on their way down to Big Bend, all 4 were drunk and caring a considerable amount of arms and ammunition.
What a bunch of losers.
