A different kind of battleground

Houston Astros fans were treated to a rare display Friday as one of baseball's top pitchers and the nation's top general appeared together on the pitcher's mound at Minute Maid Park.

Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, threw the ceremonial first pitch before the Astros faced the Pittsburgh Pirates. Roger Clemens accompanied him to the mound.

Myers was returning a favor to Clemens, who visited troops in the Persian Gulf region. Friday was Military Appreciation Night.

"Tonight is a big event because it tells the military that the Astros care very much for them," Myers said.
