Gay GOP Group Slams Keyes Remark
http://www.ktok.com/script/headline_newsmanager.php?id=344662&pagecontent=nationalnews&feed_id=59

A Republican gay advocacy group Wednesday blasted Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes for verbally attacking Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter.

(snip)

"In a political career defined by failures, this is a new low for Alan Keyes," Log Cabin Executive Director Patrick Guerriero said in a statement. "Attacking a politician's children is beyond the pale, even for an extremist like Alan Keyes."

(snip)

"The Republican Party has a choice: We can either be the party of Arnold Schwarzenegger or the party of Alan Keyes," Guerriero said.

Surely those aren't the only two choices?!

1. when are the LCR's going to learn?
sure the GOP's say they have a big tent -- but most of the minorities have to stand at the back of the tent

23. Barney Frank Told Me
Congressman Barney Frank told me in a Democratic Breakfast at Marshall Fields/Chicago in 1996 that Republican homosexuals measure their progress by how many gay delegates get mugged at GOP conventions every four years.

Sometimes I think Barney wasn't joking.

9. Oh goody, more coverage for the Log Cabin 12
And I'm being generous.

Why in hell does this small group of self-loathing idiots command so much media attention, and normal, everyday gay folks, who number in the millions can't get 30 seconds uninterrupted on the networks or cable to talk about some real issues important to the community?

11. Same reason Zell Miller does.
Outspoken allegiance to a losing cause. Zell and the LCRs both chose poorly. People are entertained by that.

12. I've always assumed
that LCR's were gay individuals who bought the GOP line about smaller government, lower taxes, etc. But what I've never understood is why they think that they are better off belonging to the GOP and deluding themselves into thinking they can change the party's view on homosexuality than becoming Dems and trying to get the party to move in their direction on economic issues.

13. You give them too much credit.
They're privileged types who know what side their bread is buttered on, and that if they can't stay closeted, at least they damn well better be Republicans. Or else: bye-bye trust fund.

They could become a part of the DLC- which is much stronger in our party than the GOP group that is trying to push the Republicans to become more moderate on social issues.

21. I predict the LCRs will make a statement on Friday
They've begrudgingly gone along with Bush so far, but I think now after they ordain him a second time with a platform plank specifically calling for the reduction of gay rights, CNN refusing to run their ads, Keyes being seen as a-ok and not a complete lunatic, etc, they finally will have had enough.

On Friday, the Log Cabin Republicans will endorse Kerry.

It might not move a lot of votes within the LBGT community, and Bush will on the surface not care, but it will send a message to one and all, that enough is enough, and even the most self-hating among us can only take so much from Bush. That is what will change peoples' minds.

I don't understand why democrats never make this point.
