Bush Daughters Take Stage at Convention
snip>
``We spent the last four years trying to stay out of the spotlight,'' Jenna Bush said to laughter from the delegates. ``Sometimes we did a little better job than others.''

The casually dressed young women sprinkled their five-minute speech with pop culture references.

``They do know the difference between mono and Bono,'' Jenna Bush said of her parents. ``When we tell them we're going to see OutKast, they know it's a band and not a bunch of misfits.''

The twins followed California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the stage. They pronounced him ``awesome.''

Jenna joked that their appearance provided an opportunity for ``payback time'' on live television. Barbara confided that her parents' favorite term of endearment is ``Bushie.''

``We had a hamster, too,'' Barbara said. ``Let's just say ours didn't make it.'' That was a reference to the revival efforts that the daughters of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said he performed on a family pet.

11. That's a sign of inner turmoil, isn't it?
Pathological laughter as an obsessive-compulsive phenomenon.

Mendhekar DN.

Department of Psychiatry, G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India. dnmendhekar@vsnl.net

METHOD: Pathological laughter has been known to occur in organic and functional psychotic disorders and is sometimes seen in hysteria. Though it is an important phenomenon, its significance in other psychiatric disorders has been negligible. This case report highlights the phenomenology of pathological laughter as an obsessive-compulsive phenomenon in an adolescent girl. RESULTS: The girl was brought by her parents with a history of laughing without reason, but on detail evaluation, it was found that her laughing was an irrational and ego-dystonic phenomenon. She also showed resistance to her symptom. A family history of obsessive-compulsive disorder in the parental grandfather, the habit of smiling in her father and her childhood emotional trauma and sexual abuse could have contributed to the formation of the symptom. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor drugs and behavior therapy showed good improvement in this case. DISCUSSION: Pathological laughter, though common in organic and psychotic disorders, can present primarily as an obsessive-compulsive phenomenon as well. This case suggests that each and every patient with a history of pathological laughter in a psychiatry clinic should not be labeled as psychotic unless he or she is assessed in detail. They were far from "fine." They were obnoxious and disrespectful to their grandparents. It was a train wreck and their "bit" should never have been approved.

27. Fraternal twins can be of the same sex. People usually hope for
a boy and a girl but it's just as likely they'll both be the same sex. There are more fraternal twins born than identical.

I skipped over to Faux just to see what their take was. Most of the Kool-Aid drinkers thought they were horrible, but Chris Wallace raved about them. He said they made their daddy "more human."

Right. As in how one incredibly shallow, stupid human can beget two even more incredibly stupid and shallow humans.

16. The National Review blog on the Jenna and Jenandtonic:

THE LOOK OF DISAPPROVAL
Did you see Cheney after the Bush girls?
Posted at 10:33 PM

WOW!!!!!
Arnold is the first speaker at a Republican Convention in over 30 years to sing Richard Nixon's praises.
Posted at 10:33 PM

WHERE ARE THE REAL BUSH TWINS!?!?!
These women are definitely impersonators because this the scariest, weirdest, strangest thing I've ever heard at a convention. Did anyone vet this?
Posted at 10:31 PM

PERSPECTIVE
The girls must go. The girls must go. I can't take it. Bring back Arnold!!!

But Andrew Stuttaford is across from me and says: "Okay, a little perspective: It's not worse than the hamster."

I'm not sure I would go that far.
Posted at 10:30 PM

The twins are, like, totally freaking me out. Like I'm totally having a dawson moment.

36. Oh, they know what parties are for; they're party girls...
"No wait, you like meant the GOP? It does too stand for Grand Old Party, how was I to know? Omigod, shut up. I was too reading the Teleprompter."

Giggling is an adolescent girl thing -- really young. The worst of the giggles (the high-pitched ones) comes on when the first big flood of hormones hits. The Twins' delivery, the lame stories, the clothes, the posture -- all they needed was a neon sign blinking "We're 14 years old!"

I'll bet Scary Grandma and Creepy Uncle Dick made them go to bed without dessert tonight.

These two are college graduates -- even the little I watched was embarrassing. Greatly delayed emotional and social maturity must come from their dad.

The UK article is much too kind; the LA Times does it better, saying they have "implied raunch," which they do.

Wasn't it part of that award winning campaign video directed at young voters, when Clark quoted the Outkast lyrics?

On edit: I now remember that Clark quoted the lyrics not in the video itself, but in the show where the video was shown.

What was up with that little laugh every other sentence? They were just sad and showed more Ivy League education gone to waste. The empty speeches from the Bush family were in stark contrast to the intelligence and class displayed by Teresa and the Heinz and Kerry children.

I was remembering the Kerry daughter's speeches, and just amazed how the Bush twins came off like bad actors reading an unfunny script. It looked like a school play.

Someone should really be fired over this........I'm thinking.....Bush!

In all seriousness, though, I was truly embarrassed for them. They were worse than Ahnold, and he was pretty bad.

Also, generally speaking, how children behave in public is a reflection of the parents.

Like the saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but here in Texas, the cow shit doesn't fall far from the bovines ass.
