2. Disgusting
Remember: Only hostile casualties, since May 1, 2003 "count" towards the total. Don't want to undermine morale now, do we?

16. That doesn't make sense
It states right in the article above that one of the individuals counted died in a non-hostile vehicle accident.

Military is examining why official word took 3 days

By ERIN JORDAN
REGISTER IOWA CITY BUREAU
August 31, 2004

The Davenport father whose son was killed last week in Iraq said Marine Corps officials "grossly mishandled" the notification process when they waited three days to tell the family.

"It really upsets me that my son lost his life for his country, and his country didn't let us know for three days," Randy Skinner said.

Marine Pfc. Nick Skinner, 20, was shot in the neck Thursday near Najaf, the Iraqi city where fighting had raged until Friday.

Randy Skinner said he and his ex-wife, Laura Hamann, learned of their son's death when the father of Nick Skinner's best friend called Sunday morning to offer condolences. The man's son, also stationed in Najaf, sent him an e-mail about Nick's death on Saturday, Skinner said.

How many more must there be for this country to wake the hell up?

7. They are going to try as best as they can to not make a fuss over 1000
It's going to be hard for them to keep the official casualties under 1000 before the election now, but they still may have some tricks up their sleeve.

How the media responds to the 1000th casualty is an open question, but it's only a couple of weeks away.

19. Thanks for that.
Many are not necessary. I mean, even given that we are there in the mess, many are still not necessary. And that buck stops at the Chimp-in-Chief.

From someone who was around that Arredondo action:

... I once read that safety is relative. While at home in America people feel safe compared to, say, me hiding behind a street curb. It is relative because I actually see that curb as being safe from all that is raining down on me. Even though after thought it is obvious that it offers very little protection, I still view it as "safe". So safety is relative. Especially when in a fight your buddy takes it to the chest, and survives because of the body armor. Little bruising but OK.

The real bummer is - what would happen if we just simply pulled back and watched the town in the east on the border, on the river??? Nothing - except we would not be wasting servicemen's lives...

8. Will Bush be attending their funerals? Did they bleed enough for Dole to
consider them worthy of heroism? Don't talk to this with BAbs in the room, it'll bother her beautiful mind. What a fucking bunch of callous people those Bush's are, if it doesn't have political gains it's not worth their time.

18. Prayers for them and their families and friends
Pray (or chant) that they all come home soon. This has to end before we lose any more of our best and brightest.
