Treatment of 'Aussie Taliban' unfit to print: father

SYDNEY (AFP) - The father of David Hicks, the so-called "Aussie Taliban", said his son endured "10 hours of absolute hell" after his capture in Afghanistan in 2001.

Terry Hicks travelled to Cuba last week to attend the opening hearing of his son's trial before a controversial military commission. He was allowed a brief meeting with his son.

"What he told us of his treatment on his capture is just absolutely shocking," Terry Hicks told the Sunday Telegraph. "He was stressed telling us but he wanted to get it out. It's not fit to print. ..

Has anyone else seen this documentary? Its been airing on the Sundance Channel quite a bit the past few weeks. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend it. It gives a great view of Australia's view of the US.

2. PM John Howard and Foreign Minister Downer have done nothing

for Hicks at all. They've done their best to ignore him for two
years. It's good for Australians to know that should they get
caught up in any trouble overseas, their government will do nothing
to help.

I don't think the documentary has aired here yet - now would be a
very good time, as opinion is slowly but surely turning against
the Howard regime.
