Bush Says Kerry 'More Heroic' for Going to Vietnam
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040828/us_nm/campaign_bush_heroism_dc&e=1&ncid=

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) on Saturday described John Kerry (news - web sites)'s tour of duty in Vietnam as more heroic than his own service in the Air National Guard, saying his Democratic rival had been "in harm's way."

But the president told NBC's "Today Show" that both sides should drop the debate over their wartime service, saying, "I think that we ought to move beyond the past. ... The real question is who best to lead us forward."

Asked if he believed that he and Kerry "served on the same level of heroism," Bush replied, "No, I don't. I think him going to Vietnam was more heroic than my flying fighter jets. He was in harm's way and I wasn't."

Excerpts of the interview, conducted on Saturday for broadcast on Monday, were released by NBC.

hahahahahaha - now that the heat from the smearboat attacks has made him uncomfortable, he thinks kissing ass will help!

3. Sorry Chimpinator ...
You smear - you fear and pay the consequences. You can't take a cheap shot at an opponent and then say "Oh come now, let's not fight".

You sucker punched Kerry and now you deserve to get your a** handed to you.

And we and the press all know that this is how you and Rove smear. Put it out there, let it fester, and then call a truce.

Too late smear boy. We got your fake medals and your dress-up right here.

24. Here's how...
The dumbasses will say it took a real man to stand up and say that. They're so f***ing predictable in their responses to bushit*. They fail to see that behind his little admission is really an elitist "I got by without serving so f***ing what" attitude by this "war pResident" (major sarcasm)

34. No, this just means Bush is a hero as well...
See, Bush was just admitting that Kerry taking enemy fire and being, you know, brave and all made him a bigger hero. But I guess it takes a REAL hero to admit that someone else is a hero, so that in turn makes Bush the bigger hero in the end (?)

It's to make Bush look like an honest guy who really supports our veterans by having him play this way.

19. Too little, too late.
If Bush were to start playing the game straight up, admitting his mistakes in going into Iraq, failing to pursue Osama, forcing the Pharma Windfall Bill through congress, etc, etc, etc, he'd get about 30% of the popular vote in November. He simply HAS to try to keep up the charade, though his hand was forced in this SBV4B broohaha.

8. Flying fighter jets....he said...
"...more heroic than my flying fighter jet."

Do you call that an exaggeration or a stretch of phrasing.

It implies he was fighting.

Guess we have to let the privileged and protected kid brag.

But I must say, I am fascinated watching the Kerry team at work. They really do seem to be making all the right moves. I am now looking forward to see how they react to this. It's like a giant chess game.

12. Another *bush angle:
exerpt: But the president told NBC's "Today Show" that both sides should drop the debate over their wartime service, saying, "I think that we ought to move beyond the past. ... The real question is who best to lead us forward."

In other words, both sides should drop the debate because his side already attacked Kerry's record with lies and he doesn't want anyone to attack his record with the truth.

They always play this game. They play dirty and then declare that everyone should play nice.

I say, since his side brought up the subject of the service, then his service (or lack thereof) is fair game.

13. Spin - saying Kerry was "more heroic", which implies chimp was a hero too
Just a little less of a hero. It is like Bush admitting that Shakespeare was "more brilliant" than him, or Einstein was "a greater genius".

18. Lol! Your right, how was Bush heroic by
getting some poor kid to fight in his place?

My Dad was in the NG, he volunteered to join the army in 1957 when he got out of HS. The army rejected him at that time because of a knee injury. He then went to work and started a family but he served in the NG till 1967. He was from a dirt poor family of 9 kids and noone ever gave him any breaks.

MY DAD SERVED HONORABLY IN THE NG. He showed up. He was called out to the Detroit riots. He never missed a weekend.

George Bush DID NOT serve honorably. He used the NG as a out for Vietnam and then he did not show up. What he did was not heroic but unheroic.

and before his own pathetic military record is brought to light. Yes, W wants to move on quickly before the record is set straight. How noble!

26. What's going on is that former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes
was shown stating he got bush into Texas National Guard over plain folk Texans!! This is big. Then Greg Palast writes that Barnes kept quiet in 1994 helping bush get elected to Tx. Gov. Then bush helps Ben Barnes client (Barnes by then was a lobbyist) keep a very big contract with the Texas Lottery. That was the payoff.
I have to Defend Barnes. He will be viciously attacked by the bushies. He is an ACTIVE Democrat in Texas and very big fundraiser. Unlike others , he did not defect to the repukes.
This is why bush wants to get off the VN subject. The tables have turned.

28. Thanks, but let's not drop the debate about wartime service.
The thing about the attacks on McCain is that there wasn't enough time for the truth to gel in peoples' minds. With this coming to a head in August, there's lots of time for the truth to seep out.

Can we change the subject now, before we all look too closely at my "hero" status...implying his flying fighter jets in TANG had given him an aura of Vietnam era service. Gagging, choking, regurgitating...this is a subversive maneuver by of KKKarl Rove. MKJ

How stupid does the chimp think we are? Does he expect anyone to believe that he ever flew a bona fide "fighter jet"? If he flew anything before he was grounded, it was some piece of obsolete junk.

Lie, lie, lie ...with complete confidence that the whores will lap it up and beg for more.
