Falwell offers vision for America, election advice at SBC seminary
Falwell offers vision for America, election advice at SBC seminary
By Ken Camp

Associated Baptist Press

FORT WORTH, Texas - Visionary Christian leaders in America's pulpits, courthouses and statehouses can transform the nation and change the world, televangelist Jerry Falwell told students at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

snip...........

He also confirmed his support for President George W. Bush. At the beginning of his address, Falwell quipped, "The press is here today, expecting me to get into politics, which I'm not going to do - except to tell you to vote for the Bush of your choice."

snip........

Falwell, founding pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church and chancellor of Liberty University, both in Lynchburg, Va., told the seminary students God gave him a vision not only for planting a church, but also for starting a school where students could sit in classrooms from kindergarten through graduate school and never be exposed to ungodly teaching.

The latest addition to that growing dream is a law school to "train men and women in the legal profession to be legislators and judges ...who can help bring this nation back to God and back to the faith of our fathers," he said.

2. What spews from Falwell's mouth is surely ungodly like his shilling,
if memory serves me correctly, for a pre-emptive war that God must have whispered in his ear was the right, far-right thing to do. All the killing and maiming, all the destruction, all this and so much more must be the will of God if Jerry is to believed. Where in hell will his faithful flock end up should he be wrong?

Leaving them totally ignorant and completely unprepared for the outside world.

5. It's called 'thought-molding", 'brainwashing'
They KNOW the evil things they are teaching do not make any sense, so they can't possibly allow these poor befuddled ignorami to hear anything from the outside.

It would ruin the con.

4. Radical cleric Jerry Falwell...
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 01:30 PM by CarolynEC
... is no different than the mullahs and clerics spewing their bile from mosques in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. Both he and they are enemies of America's system of government, and the society that upholds it.

7. The Smiting of The Unbeliever...
" War is a blessing for the world and for all nations. The Koran says, "Fight! until all corruption and all rebellion have ceased.
The wars the prophet led against the infidels were a blessing for all humanity.
Imagine that we will soon win the war, that will not be enough, for corruption and resistance to Islam will still exist.
The koran says, WAR! WAR! until Victory!!
The mullahs with corrupt hearts who say all this is contrary to the teachings of the koran are unworthy of Islam.
Thanks to god our young people are now to the limits of their means putting gods commandments into action.
They know that to KILL THE UNBELIEVER, is one of mans greatest missions."

8. "this year's election..."
"This year's election - whether it's the presidency, the House, the Senate or whatever - is really a referendum on what constitutes marriage," Patterson said.

Uh, yeah. Nothing about crazy shit like war in Afghanistan and Iraq, or the sagging economy, the ballooning national deficit, global warming, environmental de-regulation.....

18. How dare you to say Falwell has no vision?
Jerry's vision is of the man that's on each piece of money. His faviorte is Benjamin Fanklin and bank notes.

14. Falwell's favorable rating among evangelicals is only 44%
snip>
The media often look to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell to speak on behalf of all evangelicals, yet evangelicals give Falwell a marginally unfavorable rating (average rating 44 out of a possible 100), and Robertson receives only a marginally favorable rating (55 out of a possible 100). In contrast, evangelical leaders Franklin Graham and James Dobson are both viewed very favorably by evangelicals (73 out of a possible 100), and Pope John Paul II is viewed more favorably by all evangelicals (59 out of a possible 100) than either Falwell or Robertson.

But I still hate to see him around anything billed as "education".

17. It's not just Falwell's problem any longer...
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 03:49 PM by captainjack
His idea of a theocracy can and will be implemented as long as Neo-cons have even the POTENTIAL to get back in power, after they lose this November. We can all guess that the laws will skew towards turning America into a theocracy if Bushdick wins this november. But even in 2k8 or 2k12, these nutjobs can (with the media at their heels) force Dem's to lose control. Another 4 years will mean CERTAIN demise for a secular America.

Foreigners(let's not kid ourselves, foreigners, esp from asia, make this country's science machinery tick) will hesitate coming to a country of religious fanatics and our edge on science/tech will disappear. I'm not exxagerating about this part - the best discoveries and innovations are NO LONGER being made in America. Tech/science = economic and military supremacy. Lose that edge, and America is no longer a superpower. Christian fundie judges and teachers/administrators will only accelerate this problem.

The solution as I see it is to make sure the media gets sharp teeth and powerful jaws again, that science is moved to the front of ourto-do list, and that Neo-con fanatics lose their control, now and forever.

If that doesn't work - time to buy that ticket to Geneva and learn German/French really quickly.
