GOP Organizers Short on Events Insurance (for cocktail parties)
NEW YORK Aug. 26, 2004 — Party organizer to host: I've got the champagne, cocktail umbrellas, chorizos and dips ... but the special events insurance is proving hard to come by.

As the Republican National Convention comes to New York next week, some organizers of the many cocktail parties planned around town are seeking special events insurance coverage. Such policies, which cover liability and event cancellation, haven't been that popular in the past, but after the terrorist attacks three years ago, they're in demand.
...
"They had been told by the broker initially that it might cost $1,500 to $2,000 for a cocktail party for one night for 500 to 600 people," he recalled. "Now they're being told it would cost about $20,000 to insure the party."

3. Well, it's only fair.
After all, these are REPUBLICANS. Their lives are more valuable than the usual run of the mill American.

Testa said given the location, the event and the timing of the party, a $20,000 estimate was a fair premium. But his firm, like so many others, wasn't willing to take on the risk and passed on the request.

Marsh's Moore, who also brokered insurance for the Democratic National Convention in Boston, said the demand for special events insurance was significantly lower in Boston.

5. Boo-freakin'-hoo! Now they know how it feels to be fleeced by insurers!
Gosh... they WHINE about doctor's malpractice insurance, they're whining about cocktail party insurance, you think the republicans will EVER admit it's because Bush has enabled one of his larges donors, the insurance industry, to fleece the nation for the past 4 years? Quick. Name the #1 problem in th health care industry: insurance costs.. from soaring personaly insurance costs, to malpractice insurance. Anyone get a renewal on their home insurance? Went up. Car insurance? Went up. Health insurance? Skyrocketing. Now the GOP can cry over their cocktail weenies over the unfairness of it all. HOw perfectly ironic.

6. Wait a minute! This is the party of "personal responsibility." So
if they get drunk and fall off a balcony and hurt somebody, I'm sure they'll make it right without any kind of litigation. (heavy sarcasm)
