GOP agrees to 'respect and accept' dissent [within the party]

Frist: 'We've worked very hard to be the open door' party

Thursday, August 26, 2004 Posted: 1:42 PM EDT (1742 GMT)

NEW YORK (AP) -- In a few words meant to speak volumes, Republicans have extended a welcome to party members who disagree with elements of their platform, a strongly conservative statement of beliefs that includes an endorsement of constitutional bans on abortion and gay marriage.

Party leaders working with platform delegates on both sides of the abortion issue settled on a declaration Wednesday night that Republicans "respect and accept" that party members can have deeply held differences.

Who're they fooling? "respect" and "accept" are NOT in the GOP vocabulary -- unless you are a CEO, crony capitalist, Bible-thumping evangelical stringpuller (preferably with access to broadcast media) or one of the rubes they've fooled into buying their dross.

2. If you have to announce it, it's probably bullshit.
Along the same lines as businesses having a "policy" about "quality", if you have to remind everyone that it exists, it really doesn't. If there were respect for differing viewpoints within the Republican party, they wouldn't have tell each other about it.

5. As long as they vote against their own interests.

:eyes: OTOH, they've "opened the door" to bigots, profiteers, religious fascists and theocrats, and all manner of sociopaths.

It's a little like the folks in the plantation's Great House opened the back door to some of the slaves and sharecroppers ... to help cook, clean, and serve.

I hear tell that the Nazi's "accepted and respected" the Kapos in the concentration camps, too.
:puke:

6. LIARS
I watched that fiasco. The fundies are about as tolerant as Atila the Hun. They just thru that in to fool everybody. What i saw was Christian facists dripping with the holy spirit of hate. The party platform was something out of "the old Testament Vengeful Gawd wants BLOOD" series. It was truly scary.

7. What a joke.
..as the original poster comments, dissent is not tolerated one iota in the Republican party. If a Republican politician doesn't march lock-step with what the national party wants, one can expect the national party to withdraw funding and insult the politician publicly.

Desperation is the word of the day. This attempt to suck up to the same people the persecuted days ago makes it impossible to mistake their desperation!

<snip>

"You can't craft a vicious, mean-spirited platform and then try to put lipstick on the pig by putting Rudy Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenegger on in prime time," Christopher Barron of the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay-rights group, said in an interview."

11. What Nonsense
To the sexual deviants:
we accept and respect you may have ideals different than our platform, but we're still pushing for a constitutional amendment to strip away your rights as citizens.

To the baby killers:
we accept and respect your view. we're still pushing for a constitutional amendment to control when you have children.

12. Yes, that fits in well with "You're either with us or against us".
That should be their campaign slogan, actually.

14. No gay rights of any kind, no abortion rights either!
This is really what the GOP is trying to say:

We can "respect and accept" that party members can be "homos that will burn in the eternal fires of Hell and permissive women that want to murder their unborn babies."
