Artist Plans to Lynch Confederate Flag
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Confederate flag as interpreted by artist John Sims is pink and purple, hung by a noose or colored in the red, black and green of black nationalism.

But it is the Florida man's plan to hold a mock lynching of a Confederate flag when his exhibition opens at a Gettysburg College art gallery early next month that has triggered a campaign to cancel the show.

snip.......

Some have been signed and angry, others anonymous and threatening, their biggest issue is the mock hanging he plans on a 13-foot-high gallows outside Schmucker Art Gallery.

"Things like, I'm the one who should be hanging -- stuff like that," said the 36-year-old artist and teacher.

1. Good God
You guys have no idea how much we here in the South hate that damn flag. Why won't people just leave it alone and let it go away??? :eyes:

4. Again - I say let them fly that flag
Only if they drive on roads built and maintained by the Confederate government. ;)

6. Ha! What a perfect idea
Except I really don't know how to operate a horse and buggy getup.
But then again, all rednecks are supposed to come standard equipped with a 4 wheeler.

9. There are way too many yahoos around me who fly that flag
I never quite understood the theory of basically pledging your allegiance to a country that hasn't existed in over 130 years.

10. They can pledge away
We should just designate one state and let all the losers move there.
Then cut off the federal funding and treat them like a third world country.

I vote for moving them to South Carolina (sorry any DUers there, but you'd be required to move from there anyhow)

I'm glad we were able to amicably come up with this solution.

2. I'm ashamed every time I see it flying
There's one on the main street of the town where I live (Hot Springs, Arkansas) right next to the American and state flag. I wish someone would burn it. I would, but they would charge me with arson. We've all discussed climbing the flag pole and doing something to it. It must be sanctioned if it's on government property.

I hate it. Burn it, hang it, shred it, get rid of it!

3. Flags should be burned, not hung.
I remember a few years back, I wanted to stage an 'annual-event' where us folks in Wisconsin would burn a Confederate flag, to celebrate our victory over the South in the Civil War.

I figured we'd get a little news coverage, aggravate rednecks, and claim we'd been burning their flag annually for a hundred and forty years.

The idea never got anywhere, but nevertheless I'm more of a flag-burning advocate, than a hanger.

5. Oh great! Another pointless distraction.
Just what we need right now a debate about the Confederate flag. Couldn't this wait until after the election?

7. Here's what I don't get
The wingnuts are always tossing around the "hate America" charge, but that don't have a problem with people who want to fly the symbol of states that thought so little of this country they tried to form their own. Seriously, isn't this the ultimate anti-American act? Or am I just biased?

14. I am so sick of that flag
so sick of the confederate flag. I live in GA and was glad when Gov Barnes changed the flag. it made alot of rednecks mad and then perdue had to go change it again. I wish it would just go away.

16. Look at the artist's website.
Highly entertaining. I found the intro section in recoloration proclamation very interesting. He is talking about how that flag amount to visual terrorism. www.johnsimsprojects.com

Jim Palmisano, commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans group in Gettysburg, said he wishes the school would cancel the exhibition, calling the mock lynching tasteless and insulting.

Well now you know how the rest of us feel having that flag shoved down our throats. Particularly upsetting when it flies on public property. Getting a taste of their won medicine, if you ask me.

20. A Good buddy of mine traveled through the Deep South...
Went way out into the backwoods to visit family and he said in many places some people still hold a grudge over the war. He told me "It was was like something out of a movie, there seriously were these old guys sitting in front of a market discussing all the 'what if's' that would have led to a confederate victory" He said, just to push their buttons, he'd whistle 'Battle Hymn of the Republic.' LOL!
