Cuba Breaks Ties with Panama Over Bomb Pardon
http://news.findlaw.com/international/s/20040826/cubapanamadc.html

HAVANA/PANAMA CITY (Reuters) - Cuba severed diplomatic ties with Panama on Thursday in anger at its outgoing leader pardoning four Cuban exiles imprisoned for plotting to kill President Fidel Castro in 2000.

Panama's conservative President Mireya Moscoso, who leaves office next week, said she freed the Cubans for humanitarian reasons.

Three of the plotters were Cuban-born U.S. citizens and on their release they flew directly to a small airport in Miami, where they were met by their families.

3. These hardly seem like minor crimes
"The pardoned men were among six sentenced in April for their part in a failed attempt to bomb a University of Panama auditorium where Castro was due to speak during a summit of Iberian and Latin American leaders.

Among those freed was prominent anti-Castro activist Luis Posada, who escaped in the 1980s from a Venezuelan jail where he faced charges of planning the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner that killed 73 people.
...
Moscoso said she freed the four because they were convicted for relatively minor crimes rather than attempted murder and denied claims the United States had pushed her into it."

Attempting to blow up an airliner and an auditorium full of people have both been established as acts of terrorism recently (911 and the Russian theater incident). Once more, we see how flexible these terms are when BFEE interests are involved. Anti-Castro-ism trumps all.

To be fair to the Panama leadership, they have experience of what happens to your country if you don't snap to attention when a Bush tells you what to do - remember Noriega, the BFEE's partner in crime of about 14 years ago.

4. Pardoned exile trio back home
CUBA NEWS
The Miami Herald

Nearly four years after being arrested in Panama on accusations of plotting to kill Fidel Castro, three Cuban exiles from Miami-Dade return home.

By Elaine De Valle

Posted on Fri, Aug. 27, 2004

<snip>
Novo, Posada, Gaspar Jiménez and Pedro Remón -- all involved in past anti-Castro violence -- were arrested in Panama in 2000 on charges that they planned to kill Castro during his visit to the Ibero-American Summit, held in Panama that year. Though Panamanian courts ruled that there was not enough evidence to accuse the men of attempted murder or possession of explosives, they were convicted in April of endangering public safety and sentenced to up to eight years.

Moscoso pardoned the men Wednesday, less than a week before she is to leave office, telling The Herald she did so for ''humanitarian reasons'' and because she feared that her successor would extradite the men to Cuba, where they could face a firing squad.
<snip>

Jiménez, 69, was rushed to an area hospital with high blood pressure after he landed at Opa-locka aboard one of two small airplanes chartered by Santiago Alvarez, a longtime friend of the four and Miami developer who spearheaded a campaign to raise money for their legal defense.
<snip>

''It just brings up some dreadful memories for my mother,'' said Al Milian, whose father, radio commentator Emilio Milian, lost his legs in a car bombing in which Jiménez was indicted, although the indictment was later dropped.

Unfortunately, many of these small groups (the anti Castro terra groups) have connections with, or are extensions of, US government agencies like the CIA, NED, SOA, etc. The hundreds of 'small acts of terra' in Miami are, essentially, US government sponsored terra against its own citizens.

If you live in Miami (and don't toe the anti Cuba line) you really know what terror feels like.

8. VZ has call back its Panama ambassdor too.
Evidently Panama's president Moscoso humanitarian pretext for freeing the terrorists offended VZ.

She claimed that she feared extradition to Cuba or Panama would result
in Cuban exiles being sentence to death.

But VZ doesn't have a death penality.

Venezuelan Ambassador Flavio Granados said he was being withdrawn "because of the offensive statements" made by Panama's President Mireya Moscoso.

She pardoned the four a few days before leaving office at the end of August.

Ms Moscoso said had pardoned them for "humanitarian reasons", because "if they stay (in Panama), they might be extradited to Venezuela or Cuba, where I am sure they would have killed them".

10. BBC News link:
Cuba cuts relations with Panama

Cuba has cut diplomatic ties with Panama after its president pardoned four exiles Havana accused of plotting to kill Cuban President Fidel Castro.

The move was expected after Panama's President Mireya Moscoso pardoned the four, who were being held on charges of forgery and threatening security.

They had not been charged with attempted murder for lack of evidence.

Ms Moscoso, who is due to leave office next week, said she feared the four would be extradited and executed.

Three of the men who are Cuban-born US citizens flew directly to Miami where they were met by their families while leftist students rioted in Panama City. The Cuban government described the pardon as "an affront to the victims of terrorism and their families" and described Ms Moscoso as an "accomplice and protector of terrorism".
However, the BBC's Stephen Gibbs reports from Havana that the rupture may be short-lived as the Panamanian leader's successor, Martin Torrijos, has publicly opposed the pardons and said he would work to repair relations.

12. The US is also an accomplice and protector of terrorism in this case
How these fucks are allowed into the US without being arrested is beyond me.

They have violated (many times) the US's Neutrality Act.

13. FBI questions them over Neutrality Act violations
Just started a thread in LBN on this story

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/9518280.htm
FBI agents questioned three Cuban exiles shortly after they arrived at Opa-locka Airport following their pardon by Panama's president in an alleged plot to kill Fidel Castro.

The information could be used for an investigation into whether the three -- all naturalized U.S. citizens -- violated federal law. The U.S. Neutrality Act bars Americans from trying to overthrow foreign governments not at war with this country.

On Thursday, FBI agents interrogated the three to find out more about the Castro claim that they planned to kill him during a 2000 visit to Panama, according to law enforcement sources. Immigration officials also questioned them.

Meanwhile, the mystery of the whereabouts of a fourth exile and alleged plot mastermind, Luis Posada Carriles, continued Friday with reports that he was in El Salvador or Honduras.

A Miami developer helped arrange for Posada's flight to an undisclosed country and for the charter Lear jet that brought the three men home to Miami. Santiago Alvárez confirmed Friday that the three were interviewed by the FBI at the airport.

14. So that confirms what I read yesterday. Luis Posada Carriles, former CIA
operative decided to go into hiding. I was thinking he couldn't hide all that well in Miami, if someone decided to find him. Interesting.

Human trash. They could have killed far MORE people than President Fidel Castro if their bomb had worked in that large auditorium. You'd think the Panamanian government would be reluctant to simply let the U.S. force them into overlooking it in order to spring these villains to please hardline Cuban "exiles" and get some votes for Bush.

They were kept for ages before trial, during which time the fuses from their bombing equipment suddenly went missing from the evidence room after they were arrested. Surprise! So when they went to trial, they couldn't stand to the full charge, as it seemed.

Not content to let them do this trivial time they surely deserved, it appears she caved to some mysterious pressure to release these murderers, while claiming it was the right thing to do. Impossible!

No honor among these people. NONE.
