'Conclude Enquiry on $180m LNG Scandal'

The House of Representatives has been urged to resist pressure being mounted on the legislative chamber to discontinue investigations into the $180 million liquefied natural gas contract bribe scandal, allegedly involving a consortium of foreign companies.

President of the African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Reverend David Ugolor, said this in an interview with newsmen in Benin-City, Edo State.

Ugolor spoke on moves by authorities of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) company to pressurise House Committee on Public Petitions, headed by Honourable Chudi Offodile, to immediately turn off searchlight and stop the enquiry.

The Financial Times, quoted Offodile as saying,"the committee had made an interim recommendation that the TSKJ Consortium be barred, until the end of the inquiry, from taking future work in Nigeria, where it is building a $12 billion gas project jointly owned by government and Royal Dutch/Shell and Total oil companies."
