Ohio Utility Cuts 205 Nuclear Jobs (Layoff Update)
"FirstEnergy Corp. of Akron, Ohio, will eliminate 205 jobs in its nuclear operating subsidiary, or about 7 percent of that unit, as part of a previously announced reorganization.

EDIT

Interstate Bakeries Corp. said it is closing a bakery in Buffalo, N.Y., a move that will eliminate 200 jobs, effective Oct. 23.

EDIT

CitiFinancial, a Baltimore-based consumer lending division of CitiGroup Inc., plans to close an office in Hanover, Md., and lay off 116 employees by year's end. Work done at the center is being moved to CitiFinancial support centers in Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas and Phoenix, a spokesman said.

About 110 employees of a Provident Financial Group Inc. mortgage lending unit in Cincinnati will lose their jobs Oct. 19 when the operation is closed, the company said in a notice filed with the state of Ohio and the city."

2. You know the part of this story I liked best?
It was the bit about how cutbacks in staffing will make operations safer!
