Bush daughters urge young people to register, vote (not party)
Associated Press

.. That message from Barbara and Jenna Bush comes today in an e-mail sent to voters in the 18-to-24-year-old range. The message also points out that only about 32 percent of the people in that age group were registered to vote in 2000.The Bush twins also advised young people not to allow schoolwork, parties and extracurricular activities to prevent them from entering the voting booth -- and instead take part in an election that could help change the nation's future.

1. Yeah, it takes all of 10 minutes to vote
Don't let your constant partying interfere with that.:eyes:

What an idiotic statement, but what did I expect coming from their press people?

it very well may take hours to get into a voting booth depending on where you live.

I also- honestly- have to say that they're doing the right thing here. As much as I despise the Bush* family... they're showing more responsibility and levelheadedness in this case than I really expected of them.

Good on both of them for this.

edit: " and instead take part in an election that could help change the nation's future."

Am I reading this correctly? That reads like a slight slam on their father, there.

Change the course of the nation's future?

The only thing that would change the course of our nation's future would be for Kerry to be elected.

CHANGE the course?

Are they aware of what they really said, here?

2. Has anyone ever actually heard the sounds of their voices?
I never have.

They seem like Maggie Simpson in that respect...

4. Here's one from their cousin, Jeb's daughter Nicole....

<clip>

Where's Jeb's daughter?

How about this ----

As a rich and privileged young drug addict with a fondness for writing false prescriptions, I feel impelled to urge all of my young equally addled, rich and privileged peers who are totally consumed by self-destructive self-will to get out and vote. Yeah, it is a hassle. You have to keep the SUV from running over children, and you have to watch out for those pesky trees and telephone poles. But consider what's at stake. Who else is going to render the judicial system into the hopeless tangle of hypocrisy that it has become? Just think, twenty-five short years ago, United States District Judges enforced civil rights laws, and (shudder) the poorly dressed had the right to go into the Federal Courthouse. This could happen again. Can you believe what that would mean? It could be seriously bad. What happens if they bust you with cocaine in your shoe at the halfway house? If there were an honest judge -- just think about it, ok?

I really don't know what to tell you. On the basis of my experience, the best deal is to work something out with your best local source -- you know -- something like, "don't listen to me whine. Keep me conscious on voting morning and promise me and extra hit for right after I leave the booth." Or maybe you should listen to Rush -- the man with the Rush, if you know what I mean. He says that you should have your servants go down and get the absentee ballot for you. Yeah, now that's a plan!

There's only one more thing I can say. Consider this: Democrats vote to give money to local cops. Got that?

Nicole

6. Anyone who would LISTEN to Jenna or Barbara ...

Are already college Republicans and will vote for Dubaya anyway.

Young voters poll at a 2-1 rate for John Kerry. So even if Jenna WERE to be successfull, the tactic would only backfire.

10. WP: Younger Voters Rapidly Deserting Bush
By Richard Morin and Christopher Muste
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, August 15, 2004; Page A05
snip----
But that was then. In the latest Post-ABC News poll, taken immediately after the Democratic National Convention, Kerry led Bush 2 to 1 among registered voters younger than 30. Among older voters, the race was virtually tied. About 1 in 6 voters in 2000 was between 18 and 29 years old.
